Hey Nik

Was doing that movement but instead of laying on a bench and holding it. He was half way up a pole holding with it pressed against his right shoulder.

Kinda hard to picture I guess from my discription but it's hard to explain.

yeah sounds like he's been watching those ghetto exercise vids on youtube where the guys do all the crazy pullups in the local park... (and never seem to train legs)

regardless, even people doing silly shit in the gym don't deserve injuries that are that serious... fingers crossed the damage isn't permanent

Question for Birds,

How much size do you usually lose in your upper body (chest, shoulders, arms, back) when you cut? Talking visuals here btw, I no longer care about figures.

I'm about to start cutting back a bit so I'm curious as to how much width and thickness I will shed in the process (do you drop a shirt size?)

Gotta use some figures cause its too subjective otherwise!

At 89kg I was a tight 34 for pants size, at 80kg I'm a comfortable 32. I don't know where all the fat came off cause my stomach wasn't that big at 89; must have been pretty evenly distributed.

As for t shirts and tops, I like wearing slim fit / body hugging stuff. So before, my arms were stretching the sleeves (loved the tight fit, half of the bicep exposed etc.) and a couple people would say "that t shirt is too small for you (lol no shit)". Now, the same t shirts are comfortable snug...bicep isn't popping out like before, but it hasn't turned into a loose fit t shirt. It's not all bad shrinkage though...your waist gets thin too, which maintains (or improves) the "pizza slice" for any size that comes off the upper body.

To sum it up, bulked = look better with top on, cut = look better with top off. These days a lot of females seem to be going for the lightweight MMA fighter physique; lean/cut muscle on a thin frame...so cut gets my vote for this reason haha. I haven't lost any strength from cutting either...not that I dieted harshly or anything; it was quite a slow and steady cut.

Should ask Joey for his input as he did a similar thing to me...might have bulked up again since though?

Thanks for the reply man, I see what you mean too. I'm not going to change my diet yet (cutting calories from carbs) but i've started getting into cardio again so i'll see how I go about cutting down.

Thinking I should take a photo now, and in about a month to track progress.

I dont really get the whole bulk and then cut thing.

I know you have to eat a lot of healthy foods with lots of carbs/protein when you are trying to put on muscle, but that doesn't mean you need to get fat I don't think.

Sure if you are competing in body building comps then I can understand cutting, but for the everyday person why not just maintain a healthy diet and put on muscle at the same time?

I'm by no means huge or anything but I have definently put on muscle over the last few months by eating healthy/lots in combination with doing weights.

Most people seem to look decent to me before they start cutting anyway...

Yeah def take photos Tom, I wish I had. I only have one or two from when I was 89, just me tensing my arm, so I'll try and replicate the pose this week to show you the difference in arm appearance.

There's no reason you can't gain muscle without doing bulking and cutting crap, Mitch. Let me set it straight, my bulk and cut wasn't a traditional bodybuilder type thing...I originally stacked on weight purely because I wanted to weigh more and then, realizing I didn't like how I looked, I turned to cutting to bring my weight back down and get my abs back.

That said, I'm no expert on nutrition, but when I was stuffing my face I had heaps more energy to get through workouts. So I guess bulking is more about giving your muscles an over-supply of carbs and protein to build more muscle, gaining fat is a by-product of it...cutting is simply getting rid of the fat that results from this process.

In extreme cases, i.e. bodybuilding, where there can be 20-30 pounds difference between the on/off season, it's obviously not going to help muscle building if you're trying to maintain a 5% BF. During a "bulking" phase a BB might be 20% which a lot of people would consider average BF.

Maybe markos can throw his 2 cents in here; I remember one of the newsletters going into detail about gaining lean muscle vs bulking/cutting.

Do they all come with their arms ripped off or is that the R-Spec model? (cwatididthar?)

Edit: damn, thought this was Vic wasteland, my joke will go unappreciated :(

Vic wasteland whore checking in

Try eBay Rimon?

Replicate the photo Birds, it would be good to see a comparison for low fat storing areas like your arms.

The only reason I bulked was the same reason as Birds, caught the bug of wanting to weigh more after being the skinny kid. Now i'm starting to hit the puffy stage where you just wish you had your abs back so it's time to push the weight ego out the door for good.

Fair enough. I'm not that concerned about weight. I was 73-75kg at 6'1 when I started going to the gym last October. Now I hover around 80kg and I daresay that would be more if I actually worked my legs for the first 6 months haha!

I don't think I would like putting on fat and seeing definition disappear, hence why I'm not doing the bulk/cut thing to a huge extent. I like to be able to see the gains rather than having to diet to see them.

I might try to drop a little bit of bf% once I'm happy with where my development is at, but the reality is that even at my current bf% my abs are easily visible, so I think I'm doing ok.

Good luck with the cut, summer is coming up!

'Lean bulking' is the way to go! I aim for 1-1.5kg a month so that nets me some fat gain but of the 11 kg I've put on over the year and a half my pant size has stayed them same.

I might do a cut closer to the end of the year, will probably regret it though because I probably won't be as big as what I want to be but I should be able to hit my strength goals by then which is what matters more to me.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
