Who else is feeling the same symptoms?

They just don't seem to have that "classy" or "elegant" touch in them, no matter what car or what brand, it's still a Jap car end of the day.

When driving around in Melbourne's higher class suburbia, you feel like a foreigner in your Jap vehicle.

Got to love this new 3 series coupe.

what can you get in a merc or a bmw that you cant get in a skyline within the same price range?

its just the classy badges, other than that most these german/euro cars are nothing special if you think about it...

nah....its not that...its more man

i am looking for a c200k at hte moment...its just the most comfortable car to sit in....going test driving next weekend. The options in the one with the amg optioned c200k is just phenomenal - even paddle shifts! and brakes soo big that its just not funny

skyline is just raw power

ur not special

go hide in ur corner at kmart....... and ill come see you :P

:P

its all good if comfort is what you're after, but sooner or later you'll get sick of it and will want somethin that goes.

i dont know about mercs but i'd never touch a bmw other than an m3/m5 coz the standard models are the slowest cars on earth!

got a '06 c180k merc in the garage.

drove it for a year before i bought the r34.

id say i get just as many looks as i did in the merc.

r34 feels much easier to drive - mums think so too.

comfort wise, id say the merc for sure coz of the leather seats etc.

still prefer my skyline =]

but once older age kicks in that might change.

:P

its not about speed with the c class, e class, 3 series and 5 series....thats why im keeping the r33 for a while, getting the c200k soon, and then 5 years down the track go for another hi performance car

only live once, so might as well experience prestige and power :P

Euro cars are the sh!t.

But i guess they're more of a daily and a "cruise" car.

If I could afford it I would go for a nice e46 with a racing dynamics kit and wheels on it.

Prestige at its best.

Or for the merc side, nice brabus kit or something.

At the end of the day, roads aren't race tracks and we can't get sports cars to perform at their best.

If it's in your price range maybe try an audi a4 quattro, awd and turbo (model-specific). Not sure how they go but in my opinion they look great. The interior is rather nice too.

Lotus Exige :P

I'm over jap cars! When you go prestige you will never go back.

Try it one day you will know what I mean - Then realise you use to be a hoon - Then realise why everyone hates them and join them hating them. :-)

Jap cars were good 5 years ago when everyone left you alone but now everyone is against them.

Go prestige - No defects - No EPA's - Save on Petrol. And all you need to do is put a set of sexy wheels on.

No doubt I would prefer an M3 with some sexy AC Schnitzer rims, but unless they drop in price to aroun 15k I'll keep my R33 quite happily.

And prestige cars are very nice to drive (I have an E46 318i at home) but they just dont provide the excitement I want from the budget I have.

Ummm the Quality?

Its just like saying what can you get in a Skyline that you can't get in a Holden in the same price range?

your comparing lemon's with mango's

    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
    • Probably not. A workshop grade scantool is my go to for proper Consult interrogation. Any workshop grade tool should do it. Just go to a workshop.
    • In my head it does make sense to be a fuel problem since that is what I touched when cleaning the system. When I was testing with the fuel pressure gauge, the pressure was constantly 2.5 bar with the FPR vacuum removed. When stalling, the pressure was going up to 3.0 bar (which is how it should be on ignition).
    • ECUtalk pages don't mention they support the ABS computer (consult port has more than one CAN), so you might just need a different scan tool. But, I would expect ABS is a different light to the brake warning/handbrake light, do you see an ABS light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key from ACC to IGN? But since you said: I'd have a look at the ABS sensors in the rear hubs to make sure they are not damaged, disconnected etc.
    • OK, if it idles at 1000+ with the AAC, its not an idle airflow problem. The cold start valve just gives extra air when the engine is cold, but you have enough air without it to idle at 1000. I think you are back to a fuel problem, sorry. Can you see the fuel pressure staying constant or does it drop as the revs drop to a stall?
