So I've built a RB30DET to go into my 32, I'm going to tune it to 300rwkw. I've got a 33 box and was going to just weld a 33 yoke onto my 32 tail shaft so it would all bolt up nicely.

However when my mechanic took the shaft up to the tail shaft shop to be modified they said that a two piece shaft wouldn't last 5mins and that i need to buy a custom one piece shaft for $800!

Is anyone with similar power and the standard shaft having issues?

Is $800 a reasonable price for a custom one piece tail shaft to fit a 32 with a 33 box

Cheers,

MicK

if they last drifting....with over 300rwkw they should be fine in yours. i have broken one and it was unis.... cat forgot to mention the vibration to me... that shaft had done 4years of drift and was untouched from new.

I got a custom (two piece i think) tail shaft made up for about $700 from memory. They said it was good for 1000hp. I looked everywhere for someone to modify my standard shaft with the r33 yoke (r33 box in r32), but everyone said it would be a pain in the arse and that the standard uni's would be f**ked and are irreplacable anyway. Im sure a standard shaft in good nick would handle that sort of power though.

Shaun.

I was told by one local mob that the standard uni's are good for 1000nM but only in short bursts (15-20sec), the guy he could build one with standard uni's for $900 but it would only handle a few launches.

Went to another, better, mob, had my 2piece built for $700 with bigass solid uni's etc, the only bits of the old shaft they used were the little stubs either side of the centre bearing.

Cost us either $70 or $120 bucks for that mod cant remember ^^^ did it on cats car had the whole shebang done at tailshaft joint in keysborough... they specialise in high torque commercial stuff and a fair big of v8 shit.... killer place.

In the std type shaft the unis are not replaceable, i have had custom ones made up and they can match the out put shaft up with a holden VL yoke, or equivalent and then you can use genuine unis which are 10x stronger then a hardy spicer one. Worked out well.

    • The issue now is the 'fuel cut' while driving, and when it happend, it does not stall. This, I did not test the fuel pressure while driving as I cannot with a fuel pressure gauge. I do have Nistune logs, yes. I have also replaced the MAF Sensor.   Also related to the FPG Fuel Hanger – I just realized that I need a Deutsch Crimp Tool to crimp some cables for the FPG Fuel Hanger. Need to purchase additional cables as the kit only included 2, which are for the float. FPG has not responded to my emails so far since purchasing. I thought about taking it to someone and having it done professionally, but I am reluctant since everyone I took it to messed up in some way.
    • There's a good German place in Brisbane if youre up for the drive 😛
    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
