RubyRS4
lol! I wonder what is 'normal spooling noise'? Can anybody with a S2 that is 'normal' be bothered to record the turbo sound on boost? That might give those of us who suspect something is wrong a better idea... just a thought... objviously if you have an exhaust which covers it up that might be hard I've still got the stock system. I've just never paid attention. I'll endeavour to 'listen out' for what is normal and try to report back here. Duncan
the turbo shaft should not move more than 1-2mm in and out, and less than 1mm side to side. any more than that and it is on the way out Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/205300-stagea-s2-turbo/page/2/#findComment-3717183 Share on other sites

When I had mine apart I'm pretty sure it had less than a milimeter; will try to check again. I could feel no play side-side. STAGE1
Hi all I have a S1 until just recently all I had was a nice turbo whistle. What I had was a very loud sound something like a mettle Bering grinding away at high revs. It turned out to be the exhaust manifold. I had two broken studs and the manifold was loose. I tightened up what I could now we are back to just the turbo whistle. I am doing some work on the car the week after Easter so I will try to fix the two broken studs then. cheers phil Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/205300-stagea-s2-turbo/page/2/#findComment-3717455 Share on other sites

STAGE1
Hi All I am not looking ford to working on the broken studs but it has to be done. I am hoping that the other 10 will come out easerly (If 2 are broken the others may be close to being in the same condition hence the reason for doing the lot). I thort that $94.oo sounded a bit dear but I got it anyway Cheers Phil Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/205300-stagea-s2-turbo/page/2/#findComment-3720736 Share on other sites

Hey Reuben what can you hear ? My turbo is pretty noisy to my ears; I can pop the bonnet and rev it a little and it sounds like a noisy fan. When it's making full boost (with the high boost mod, so it happens at ~2,250 RPM and there's less engine noise to compete with) it sounds like a pretty loud noise, bit like a jet plane taking off but not that loud. Not loud enough now for people on the side of the road to hear - I don't think - but disturbing. Dunno if it's normal... will try to record a sound clip for you all...
