I just bought a brand new M2R lid from City Yamaha for $300 less than the prices on ebay... :(

Go to a bike shop and you wont be disapointed...

However if your looking for an open faced helmet (as most car drivers do) then i got an XL one that is not suitable for me that i bought 4 weeks ago you can buy from me cheap!!!

NB.

There is a difference between bike and car helmets, what is your head worth?, buy the best and buy the right one for the job. Car racing helmets can be purchased from Revolution Racegear, (free plug) or get them from a Tyrepower Albion, (another free plug)

DON'T BUY A BIKE HELMET FOR A CAR.

If you go on to the web site that make the helmets, you will see that there are different catagories of helmet, Car, bike and off raod, and NONE of them are the same helmet in both categories.

Simpson (Stig helmet), BELL (the best, most F1 helmets ) Arias, AGV etc.

Cost for a good brand new one $600- $1000, cheaper then brain surgery.

You might have made up your mind on what you want, all i'm doing is giving you my advice that i found from my own investigations in the USA last year.

All i can say is it's your pocket or head that will end up the sorest, just think about it and do some WEB (google) investigation.

My 2 cents

Taking in to account whats been mentioned above. You need to look in to what racing you are doing. Because if you are still in a car with no cage, or harnesses, Im not sure what good a $1000 helmet is going to do you over a $200 one.

Anyway, I got mine from revoution racegear as above. Was $220 or so, unbranded and no fancy pants graphics. There is some rating that you need to look for, its basically the material the helmet is made out of, and how it absorbes an impact. As they deal with cars mostly, not motorbikes, prob best to go see them.

Also, you cant use an open faced at most gokarting places, so if you dable at that, keep that in mind.

bike helmets have the same construction material as car helmets, just differently construsted for different purposes. you wouldn't see Valentino Rossy riding with the same helmet as the Stig.

Up to you.

with a light stronger carbon/ kevlar $1000 helmet ,you would survive better then a heavy cheap fibreglass $200 helmet

Lets face it, you need one to race at most tracks and any helmet is better than no helmet...

Get what you want... Its your head...

Personally I own 4 hemets;

* M2R bike helmet ($900 lid) has heaps of vents, nose guard, aerodrnamic fins, awesome graphics, so so comfortable and very tight, I used it on the bike only...

* TTH open face helmet ($100 lid) got it for when i used to own a cruiser, open faced is the only way to experience a cruiser style bike with the wind in your face and the bugs in ya teeth...

* OGK full face plain black helmet ($180 lid) its my spare for passengers, so no extra comforts like my M2R lid...

* Sparco full face helmet no visor, with built in mic & speaker ($799 lid) was used for my stint as a navigator in targa in 2002 and 2003, also used it for the drags and QR trackdays...

Yes different helmets for different applications, but as for a good first helmet for someone who wants to go to the drags and have a bit of fun and just needs one and cant just borrow one. Go and buy a simple open face unit, I found using my open faced helmet in the car quite good as it does not restrict vision like the others do, but the feeling of saftey a full face offers just makes you feel a bit more easy behind the wheel and feels safer...

The sparco unit I have is the best choice but it was expensive and I have no use for the radio conection anymore, it was only needed in rally for communication between the driver and navigator as it gets very loud in purpose built rally cars with little to no exhaust...

Horses for courses!!!

But reading your story I changed my opinion as you can now get OGK full faced helmets for a low as $120 brand new from good bike shops... So thats what i get in your situation...

Your head might... I think your missing my point on that, along with miss quoting me. If my job was racing a car, Id want the best. But if Im taking my car to a track day, where I MIGHT see 160kmh max, and there is always 20secs or more from the car in front, and the car behind, its way safer than everyday road driving, as ambos on hand and some space to run off. You are only wearing the helmet and long sleaves because you have to.

Really go down to revolution, tell them what you are racing and what class, and they will sort you out. Easy.

    • Was there ever a model of the Stagea m35 that didnt have a badge on the grill? I thought I saw that somewhere, some aero edition or something? I cant find it again? davemoto
    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
