ive got a silver r33 gtst with bronze volk racing SE37 rims. i want to paint my calipers but im not sure what colour would suit the car/wheel combo.

originally i was thinking of the common red caliper with white nissan writing but dunno how the red would look with a silver car and those rims...

some have said to paint the caliper gold (to match the rims) with red writing?

any ideas guys? what colour etc does everyone else have?

thanks

Id go black, too. Too many colours that contrast looks a bit gumby. Another thing to look at is - are you doing anything with your interior? is there a colour theme going on in there? Match your brakes up to that even. Always better to have something that flows.

Have a look for heat proof decals and such that you can put on them is Brembo/nismo so on.

There is a DIY thread on doing it. Quite easy. Use a stencil. Or do you mean the nissan logo that is moulded into the caliper?

Paint the brakes the colour you want the NISSAN lettering. Then pain them the colour you want the calipers. Then lighly sand off the top coat from the lettering. Done! Hit it with some heat proof clear and you are finished.

a couple of points i would add:

- calipers don't need high temp paint - they work fine with any paint, but feel free to use high temp if you feel the need but it limits your colour range

- the best ways to get the nissan lettering white is to either get a white paint pen and do it carefully, or just sand the pain back to the bare metal, although sanding is harder as the nissan has slight grooves in it

- make sure you also paint the stock hub as that thing is rusty and disgusting! give it a rub with a metal brush then with steel wool, then finally clean it up with metho. then paint them either silver or black

- calipers work well with eitehr gold, red, or silver as these are collom colours you might find brembo's or stock calipers in

- when painting, don't worry if paint gets on the rotor, as any paint on the friction surface of the rotor (ie where the pad will touch) will be gone the first time you drive the car. if you feel you must get it off, use some turps on a rag

personally, i painted the calipers on my dark blue R32 in red, and i think it suited the car perfectly.

on my V35, i have left the calipers stock as they are silver and i like it that way. i recently painted the hubs in an aluminium colour to match, and the whole combo looks fantastic!

yes on the lip they say Volk Racing SE37....thanks for the info guys, think im gonna go black with white nissan writing

you guys are right, gold wouldnt look too flash, might look abit 'cheap' lol

:D thanks

black with white lettering/silver lettering i think. Or even bronze lettering to suit the wheels.

<--- i can vouch for black with white lettering on teh brembos itsa niiiice

    • Have a vb in honour of the car comming back
    • It was a great, but typical track day, and some VB was ingested at the night time debrief 🤪
    • And so, to round this out, I couldn't be happier to confirm @MBS206 has decided to buy the car. He drove down from sunny QLD with a trailer last week and it is off to its new home today. I'll let Matt confirm on next steps but I understand broadly that the plan is to leave it pretty much as is, and just get some quality wheel time with a nicely balanced car that is pretty much track ready. There are a few a jobs still to be done first but nothing too major and I think its a very smart buy Dinner last night at the Paragon with a round of VBs (mostly) for Neil
    • Well, 50 pages and the end of a chapter for this car. We took it out for a shakedown at Wakie yesterday, and everything went well. There were a couple of niggles: - Oil cooler fitting leak - tightened, cleaned, stopped leaking - Radiator cap overflow fitting was leaking....Mark called it, the overflow fitting was threaded in and not tight....tightened, tested and held pressure - Small oil leak at the rear of the block, probably the turbo oil feed - too hot to get at it comfortably but probably just needs to be nipped up - leak at the driver's side rear brake line where it meets the hardline. Fitting wasn't loose, so Matt backed it off and back on, no further leaks - there's also a leak somewhere on the top of the fuel tank, maybe that cross over fuel line - that was has been left to fix when its on a hoist Otherwise than those niggles the car went great, turned great and stopped great so it was a very successful day out. I'm always really nervous when a car first hits the track after a long break, especially with a brand new engine as well but it was great. VID-20251011-WA0007.mp4  Big thanks to @The Bogan who dropped by and helped out, @MBS206 and my nephew Lachlan the apprentice.  Neil's wife Mel also surprised the hell out of all of us by dropping by; she's up in Tamworth these days but was travelling to Melbourne so had plausible deniability for turning up at the garage, it was great to see her but also obviously a bit sad all round.
