been reading up and couldnt find the answer. im just abit paraniod before upping my current boost from 13 psi. My boost comes to about 1 bar now and drops to 13psi by 7000rpm

id like to get into track work and run constant 17-18psi in the future. And bear in mind i dont run a ebc or bleed valve. only off my actuator because it is a street car also.

ive had one fail on me before with service intervals at 10,000 k's. Now they are every 5,000 as i now have been informed.

need some opinions as i have spoken to the manufacturers and they told me 18psi should be fine. Just dont want it to blow again. This turbo is an MTQ hiflow on my r33 gtst.

i dont know what parts were put in but he said it has 2 thrust bearings for better strength??? the same housings were used from the slide hiflow and have been ported slightly larger if that helps.

paid top dollar for it so id imagine the parts would be good.

If you have paid "top dollar" i cant see why you wouldnt be able to run 18psi.It wouldnt be money well spent if you couldnt,or maybe should have gone the ball bearing option?

my suggestion is if you want to run 20+ psi, make sure you have a 360deg thrust bearing rather then the standard 270deg, then you will be safe.

but it more so comes back to actual compressor and turbo trims/wheels as to how fast they are actually spinning to produce a certain amount of boost pressure on an engine, but the above is a fairly good rule in general.

Im with you. The bearing type will dictated ho wmuch it likes boost., Secondly the axial load on teh bearing from teh compressor - turbine combination. And lastly your engines health with regards to engine oil quality, oil pressure and the temperature of your exhaust gases. LOL so its pretty difficult ot give you an A OK number for safe boost.

Bright side is if it goes bang for less then $500 you will be able to get it fully rebuilt with 360 bearings etc etc
