Or are you only listening to rumours and stories.

My friend had an accident on easter morning at castle hill in his near new S15 (black) he was turning onto showground rd from ol northern rd at castle hill at the traffic lights with the chemist there. (near the Piazza) he wasn't speeding, wasn't doing anything stupid, and a guy in a volvo pulled out in front of him turning accross showground into the macca's. my friend managed to turn and just clip the edge of his car instead of smacking him straight on, the airbags went off & he couldn't do much more, he ended going over the gutter down the stair way and hitting the small wall in macca's. (hit 2 people as he went down)

The news articles I read, both said things like "Young driver in high powered nissan sports coupe"

The funny thing is, they didn't mention anything about the FRIGGIN VOLVO DRIVER AND HIS CAR. it was one of those really expensive 5 Cylinder turbo volvo's. S70 or something, the driver was about 50 something, soon as he jumped out he started making out it was my mates fault, lucky I wasn't there or I would have been up on assault charges

I would just like to add my .02 cents worth.

I've though long and hard about the state of driving in Australia and it seems that 99.9% of motorists see their license as a right not a privilege. That's problem No. 1

No. 2 is a misconception pushed by revenue raising govt.s It's not speed that kills. It's IRRESPONSIBLE SPEED, eg: A p-plater doing 170km/h in a school zone in a clapped-out Corolla, OR 110km/h in teeming wet in heavy traffic with 5m visibility. After a few years experience it might be ok to do 150km/h on a freeway in high-visibility in a 200SX/GT-R etc.

I can only trace the source of these 2 issues back to one thing.

ATTITUDE.

Attitude governs whether you floor it past the pedestrian crossing filled with kids or whether you choose to back off in miserable weather conditions or when you recognise you lack of experience in a certain situation.

A good driver isn't neccesarily someone who can control a car at 300km/h while drifting and eating a donut.

It's someone who knows when to give it a fang, when to back off and when to just git thar hell awf dem roads!

As for the media beating up stories. That's their job, all you can do is prove to them we aren't a bunch of knob-less tryhards and drive sensibly. Counter their fiction with fact. :burnout: :burnout:

There is so many possiblities with this shit that can go wrong, particularly harming other people, but also yaself. Car could fail at high speed, an animal could run out, a car could pull out whatever it may be its silly and like everyone is saying if you do get caught we are the one's who cop it all back. I know cos my r33 is my first car and i only turned 18 and got my liscence in Feb and for a few weeks i got hastled. Its a load of crap... if anyone got to see the report on channel 7 regarding the drag's in dandynong and what have you , every one would have realised all teh cars on their that were caught and so on where actually all commodores and beten shit heaps, yet they single out us import owners as the instigaters of it all... the reason being as we set the visual scene for what people expect us to do, NOT what we actually do. Its the 'race' appearance of our cars that singles us out. Yes you'll get ya idiots in ya skylines and 200sx's etc but i know a hell of a lot more commodores that do some freaken rediculous things on the road and never get caught, and never get single out as 350kw supercharged 'missiles' that they can be also... I am jus sick of hearing all this crap that we start it all... i jus have one thing to say, i kno whow i drive and i know its sensible, i have never been caught or fined for anything and will keep it that way, but let me say if someone is the cause of an accident to myself or a close friend/family member due to their careless actions... i'll have the last laugh. Some people don't deserve the privelage of driving.

P.s. Having big power aswell does not mean you have to drive it to its limits either ;) Trust me.

i agree. I remember a few years ago, the heir of a multi-million dollar company (Faber-Castell) got done for 100 something plus in a 60 zone. He was on his P's at the time and it was in an M5 or some other 5 series BMW. He got off with something really minor (like a measily fine or 1 month restricted license) by saying that the car is capable and safe at those speeds...

Singo was in a Bentley, on the Hume, at 2am, doing 160km/h. He was let off for his brilliant driving record. Funny, if i was driving a 911 Turbo Porsche on the Hay Plain (long, flat, open straight) at 180km/h (even though the car can hit 300+) you reckon my clean driving record will save me?

There's no longer any excuse for extreme speeds on public streets. We have race tracks within reasonably close proximity to most major cities that host no speed limit days and off-street drags. Better than killing yourself or others.

By the way, i wonder if all these people who say "it doesn't matter, i'll just go into the country/deserted area to do my fanging" realise the shit they leave behind when they wipe out. Think about what your parents would feel like if they got a knock on the door at 2am with a cop standing there going, "Sorry Mr XXX, but your son Billy's just turned himself into a greasy smear on a pole".

WTF r u smokin'? read what the stupid little prick was doing.......170 in a 60 zone. Others have stated in this thread that it wasn't in residential area, it was an industrial area.....just like Fyshwick Industrial area in Canberra where about 6 months ago a poor woman and her daughter were killed on a saturday arvo by some dopey prick in an MR2 (I think).....he lived.

U can't nor should you defend stupidity like that!

Get him and like minded twits off the road for life!!!!!!!:D

Ok, this guy (and MANY others and A LOT OF YOU) was being stupid. Live and learn by your mistakes. How many of you have your speed limiters removed. WHY??? For those that say TRACK WORK, what about the REST OF YOU...

IMHO you get dangerous speeding and "safe speeding". Driving at 150kms down perth freeways at 2am is not really dangerous. Sure if you stuff up, you can pay the highest plenalty, but the roads are good, plenty of light, lots of space and you can see a long way around you.

Doing 60 kph in a school zone or residentual area is dangerous. Kids DONT look, when stuffing around.....

I got busted for doing the wrong thing (not as bad as 170kms but 130 in a 60 zone). Yet that area was out in the middle of nowhere, no one around (except for cops...) and at 2 am. Plenty of space, no side roads for passing vehicles etc.

Give the guy a break. I'm not saying what he did was right, but im sure a lot of people on here have done similiar stuid things.

i got done doing 280km/hr in a 60 zone in my VL commodore exec.

hahhahah you cant be serious man.. was there a misprint there? 280 is damn fast! we had a VN manual S pack. it was an executive.. not a chance i was going to take it over 220 even when it was new.

having been done myself at 3am on a cold Wednesday morning, I can now say it's stupid. Sure, at the time while you are behind the wheel it's great, but we think how we would feel if we ended someones life because we speeding. I lost my licence for 3 months and it cost me $700+, worse still the cops watched my car like a hawk - it's not worth it, better to take it to the track.

after reading this i went to the cop shop. recently i have been having a lot of trouble with the police. they have been telling the people i know that they dont want me driving a car like that and when we get a chance we are going to "get rid of him".

i asked the copper on duty on the front counter whats going on. he replied by saying your car is a dangerous car to be on the raod esspecially with a P plate you have lettle or no driving expreiance with a car like that. i the asked him about the endless amounts of P plates driving around there parents new V8 commodors and shit. and that i cant even chuck a lap of the main street with out a p plater trying to stir me on just to see how well it goes by reving me leaving a burnouts and crap that i get the blamm for and you guys are having a go at me when my night really consists of finding somewere to park and chat to mates, talking for an hour then usually heading to a party or the go-karts then headding home.

last night was what pissed me off. i was in my mates Calais. he pulled a big locky in front of these mirror windows (it did look cool). smoke was blowing past the intersection, then a cop rocks up he instantly stops looks around and the cop pulls over a pretty banged up 180sx with a elderly guy in it that had only just rocked up seriously there were at least 4 -6 p platers on the smae intersection in VL's and othr commodes

.

now if i get a cop telling me he's just doing he's job if i get pulled up for a simple breatho i am seriously going to tell him to get a life.

I did here the best one the otehr day but involves are very easy going mum. set your phone to speedial your mum. if you get cought ring her.

get her to really have a go at you for being late home so loud that you cant even pay attention to the cop. finally the cop tells you to put the phone down then you tell him its you mum and you give him the phone. get you mum to really make it sound that shes goingot kill you when you get home. while the cop is trying to get a word in he realises how much shit your already in plus it will make you sound like a reall mumies boy.

in the end you might get off with everything in not maybe just talking on the phone while driving.

Rick

PS dont forget to tell ya mum to expect a pretty wierd call if your thinking of traveling in a hurry on she'll **** it all up for ya. dont forget though if you speeding exspect to get cought.

I hear ya RedBack - that happened plenty of times to me... just keep your cool and stay out of trouble, cops think they can bully people (esp young guys) cause they know SOME rules. mate go online and download a copy of their legislation- keep it in your car, if they are giving youa hard time for nothing, ask what section of the act (or subsection) they are referring to! (yes, these days I am a public servant so I also know how it works...)

where do i get this legislation you talk about?

at the moment ive been asking for cop number and full name. at least this way i can start keeping track of who pulls me over and how many times.

    • Next on the to-do list was an oil and filter change. Nothing exciting to add here except the oil filter is in a really stupid place (facing the engine mount/subframe/steering rack). GReddy do a relocation kit which puts it towards the gearbox, I would have preferred towards the front but there's obviously a lot more stuff there. Something I'll have to look at for the next service perhaps. First time using Valvoline oil, although I can't see it being any different to most other brands Nice... The oil filter location... At least the subframe wont rust any time soon I picked up a genuine fuel filter, this is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the fuel tank. Access can be found underneath the rear seat, you'll see this triangular cover Remove the 3x plastic 10mm nuts and lift the cover up, pushing the rubber grommet through The yellow fuel line clips push out in opposite directions, remove these completely. The two moulded fuel lines can now pull upwards to disconnect, along with the wire electrical plug. There's 8x 8mm bolts that secure the black retaining ring. The fuel pump assembly is now ready to lift out. Be mindful of the fuel hose on the side, the hose clamp on mine was catching the hose preventing it from lifting up The fuel pump/filter has an upper and lower section held on by 4 pressure clips. These did take a little bit of force, it sounded like the plastic tabs were going to break but they didn't (don't worry!) The lower section helps mount the fuel pump, there's a circular rubber gasket/grommet/seal thing on the bottom where the sock is. Undo the hose clip on the short fuel hose on the side to disconnect it from the 3 way distribution pipe to be able to lift the upper half away. Don't forget to unplug the fuel pump too! There's a few rubber O rings that will need transferring to the new filter housing, I show these in the video at the bottom of this write up. Reassembly is the reverse Here's a photo of the new filter installed, you'll be able to see where the tabs are more clearing against the yellow OEM plastic Once the assembly is re-installed, I turned the engine over a few times to help build up fuel pressure. I did panic when the car stopped turning over but I could hear the fuel pump making a noise. It eventually started and has been fine since. Found my 'lucky' coin underneath the rear seat too The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44&t=6s
    • It was picked up on the MOT/Inspection that the offside front wheel bearing had excessive play along with the ball joint. It made sense to do both sides so I sourced a pair of spare IS200 hubs to do the swap. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the strip down but here's a quick run down. On the back of the hub is a large circular dust cover, using a flat head screw driver and a mallet I prised it off. Underneath will reveal a 32mm hub nut (impact gun recommended). With the hub nut removed the ABS ring can be removed (I ended up using a magnetic pick up tool to help). Next up is to remove the stub axle, this was a little trickier due to limited tools. I tried a 3 leg puller but the gap between the hub and stub axle wasn't enough for the legs to get in and under. Next option was a lump hammer and someone pulling the stub axle at the same time. After a few heavy hits it released. The lower bearing race had seized itself onto the stub axle, which was fine because I was replacing them anyway. With the upper bearing race removed and the grease cleaned off they looked like this The left one looked pristine inside but gave us the most trouble. The right one had some surface rust but came apart in a single hit, figure that out?! I got a local garage to press the new wheel bearings in, reassemble was the opposite and didn't take long at all. Removing the hub itself was simple. Starting with removing the brake caliper, 2x 14mm bolts for the caliper slider and 2x 19mm? for the carrier > hub bolts. I used a cable tie to secure the caliper to the upper arm so it was out of the way, there's a 10mm bolt securing the ABS sensor on. With the brake disc removed from the hub next are the three castle nuts for the upper and lower ball joints and track rod end. Two of these had their own R clip and one split pin. A few hits with the hammer and they're released (I left the castle nuts on by a couple of turns), the track rod ends gave me the most grief and I may have nipped the boots (oops). Fitting is the reversal and is very quick and easy to do. The lower ball joints are held onto the hub by 2x 17mm bolts. The castle nut did increase in socket size to 22mm from memory (this may vary from supplier) The two front tyres weren't in great condition, so I had those replaced with some budget tyres for the time being. I'll be replacing the wheels and tyres in the future, this was to get me on the road without the worry of the police hassling me.
    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
