I think I need bigger brakes before I enter this

hot_brakes.jpg

but seriously, what I really need is some new suspension.......gary!......

You AND John, it's a busy week this one. I can't remember where we left our discussion, it was 30 cars ago, so a PM is on it's way.

As for brakes, realistically you are only going to do 2 or 3 hot laps at a time at this style of event, the tyres will just about last that long. So I wouldn't get too carried away with mega brakes like it was a 25 minute race.

Cheers

Gary

Forget all you Prom Queens with your fancy cars. If i make it i am just going to be hunting down any SR20 powered car as i am sick of hearing how much better then an RB20 they are. A bit of a mid corner touch up coming onto the straight will fix their wagons.

C'mon now Troy, don't hate on the SR20, we all know they're your secret passion...

Duncan: Nice pic mate!

Go Duncan that is hot. Need some ducting and air deflectors hey????

Looks like youare having abig go. Top Pic.

Yes in Gary I trust. I am going Bilstein which is good bang for buck and will soon see, custom Sydney Kid spec.

The boat going custom Bilstein

Your car was always interesting as it used effectively off the shelf shocks. Now that you are going into the black art custom shock with a dash of hoodu, voodo and vindaloo, well sux to be a shopper for suspension and a track car  You are as bad as all the Vic GTRs with their govt research grants into gettign GTRs to go quick

It appears nobody believes anyone makes a reasonable shock for track work...custom, custom, custom :) Farkit, bigger injectors and more boost baby! Just strap in and hold on.

So Gary, is your Mack Truck going to be there? If so i will be gunning for your diesel GTSt too :merli:

Settle, this particular RB30 bottom end is from a Commondoor

Only a few things to do like put the engine and gearbox in, make a chrome molly tailshaft, fabricate some titanium dump and wastegate pipes, new front stabiliser bar, steering rack bushes, new bushes in the control arms, Pi Dash and logger install etc etc. So I had better get to it........................

Cheers

Well over 95% of the spring/shock units are off the shelf. The springs are off the shelf Eibachs, the coil over kits are off the shelf Bilstein and the shock bodies are also off the shelf Bilstein. It's only the valving changes that are not and even then they are are fairly minor. Most of which is forced by John's liking for big wings.

As I have mentioned previously, you could buy a 100% off the shelf Bilstein/Eibach kit for your car that would be way better than what you have now. It's simply a matter of choosing the right components.

Chrikey. I need an oil change and tyres. But for some reason even that feels too hard :merli:

Can you PM me your PI dash part number? A friend is looking at buying a car ruinning one and he asked if i could help source the software and some info on it. Though PI have not been too helpful to date :w00t: Did you buy Doughboys PI Setup?

:w00t: suspension tuning is just like the automation people at work, bloody white mans magic :w00t: My car is pretty good with the new Teins, but looking at Adz's video the car looks ordinary with my suspension. I have only done a few laps at Sandown and Winton with them at Dutton and they felt ok, but hardly a good test, 4 laps total on cold tyres. Still did a PB at Winton though

Yep, it was DB's it was too good a kit to refuse. Plus I had some bits and the residual knowledge left over from the old Perkins customer Commodore V8SuperCars, they came with Pi System 2's. Then I spent another $1K with PiXpress to buy some more sensors and a longer wiring harness. There were a number of System 2 software releases, I use Pi Club Expert Windows. I think you can still get it from PiXpress, unlike the Cornering Analysis software, if you come across a copy of that I really want it. The derived maths channels are very useful.

Nathan, is there much chance of their being any movement on the types of semi slicks you have outlawed? Whislt enquiring about tyres for this event i can get a disallowed tyre for a very good price. (read over $650 saving per set) Obviously i woudl like to use them, as i dont really care if they are any better or worse, they happen to be cheap.

Hi Troy,

After we have been speaking with cams it has been ruled that we will be using the semi slick tyre list that can be founf on their website.

So if they are on this list no worries you can use them. But if they are not then unfortunately no you can not.

So is that list for the open class?

Is the ruling for clubsprint still tread wear rating over 100?

The rear is maxed.  6 boost Turbosmart 60mm gate 3.5inch exhaust  Head is worked to the shithouse. Bain racing. VCam. 272 exhaust. RB28 - RB26 foundation.  You have an intake issue. Start getting proper data and I mean go back to the simple things.  - Pressure test your intake - Block off the Turbo BOV, you don't need it.  - Test pressure before and after your intercooler If your head is pretty stock, that is your issue. Especially if it is NA.  Take it off and spend $10k on it.
    • Temp = -21.052 X Voltage + 114   That should get you pretty close. Calcs based on two points I could do easy calcs on (30 and 70 degrees).   It also says your sensor should only read as low as 9 degrees when it maxes out at 5V, and should hit a peak of 114 degrees at 0V... Just as a heads up if you were going really cold places, or wanting to be aware when temps really go up with it.
    • you, sir, are a prince. good on ya.
    • You're not wrong but 5W30 at 100C is like 10 cSt vs 25 cSt for 10W60. If we think in terms of viscosity margin 10W60 will probably still be ok at 130C but 5W30 is probably too little. It's absolutely shocking how hot the oil gets in something like a stock FL5 from only ~3 minutes of use on the Nordschleife. I would not risk taking a car like that to anything remotely intense without a ton of work done for cooling. Heat shielding on the manifold/turbo/downpipe, oil coolers, etc.
