did anyone watch TOPGEAR on sbs the other day, the fat guy was talking alot of shit about the skylines and jeremy clarkeson said to him that they were great cars. i heard say that the R32 brakes would explode and the r33 engine is crap with the gear changing, but he said that the R34 GTR is a "bulletproof" that was good until he said the wheels were crap. i love this show but they were too harsh on the skylines they called them a playstation which i think is right to an extent Coz wen u crash u dont get a new car but die. what other people think of this show and comments about the skyline

isn't that clip something like 6 years old??

Clarkson drove the JUN tuned 1000BHP R33 GTR in his 'No Limits' DVD... So Top Gear didn't review it as such...

Still, both Top Gear and Fifth Gear test drove the R34 GTR in 2002 (there is an older R34 test by Clarkson from the old Top Gear) and both Jeremy and Tiff like it lots... That is all that matters...

@Oblivion..

Yeah, it would be about 6 years old, that fat guy was only on the first series before he was replaced by James May in season 2...

May = ftw... Cpt Slow.. :P

Did see it. Some of those comments were very harsh. But we all no skylines are still kicking arse today... and hopefully will do into the future. Wouldnt own anything else. Well if a ferrari was to... well you know the rest. =]

the guy didnt say they were crap. he said they were good.

he only said that the r32 breaks would explode (dramatic tv) andd the syncros on the r33 shifting from 3rd to 4th tend to crunch or whatever.. which is know to be a fact.

still he said they were a great car.

they also mentioned the athe tyres wear from the inside.... so you should BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING...

hahaha like tyres are a worry with all the $$$ you spend modding a line...

hhm thats funny. top gear love skylines. they have driven a r32 gtr and jeremy was at the time quoted at saying "this is the best car i have ever driven". furthermore they love the r34 gtr, saying it will get u out of trouble and is heaps of fun.

FURTHERMORE. they actually reviewed a yellow 1000hp skyline that can be bought for 40k pounds.

they fell in love with it.

so maybe before u start saying they hate it all...maybe u shud try youtube.com, hmmm

Don't forget they gave the R33 the honour of racing against a McLaren F1 (I'm not comparing the two, obviously the McLaren is a piece of automotive art and history).

Yeah but just about any car would have suffered the same fate. I forgot to mention they had a 'best handling' episode a long time ago; including the then current 355, 550, 911, M3, GTO, GTR etc etc and they said the GTR was the fastest of the lot.

One tester mentioned the R33 was the fastest point-to-point car he had driven at the time (remember it was in the mid 90's)

I would've paid money to see the JUN 1000BHP R33 GTR go up against the Mac F1 in the drag race!

It was a used car buyers guide...thats what that fat git did....they pointed out the possible faults of the of the earlier models, noting the costs to rectify and that the r34 had all the previous models weaknesses fixed..They also said that most of the earlier r32/33 would have been sorted by now. Finishing off with the r33 being called the "best" value (compromise) of the 3.

I thought it was a good used car review........nothing to complain about here

You think what they said about the Skyline was harsh? Well you haven't really watched Top Gear have you.

Clarkson has, on occassion, made my jaw hit my nuts (sitting at the PC) when he sh!ts all over a supercar and actually convinces me it's crap. Like, i actually hate American cars now because of that British bastard.

For the record, Clarkson has tons of respect for the GTR. In one of his books he ranked it 3rd best car EVER made (behind the Ferrari 355 and, i think, the Aston DB7 or 9).

    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
    • EMU Classic. For what I need it to do I see no reason to upgrade. Link and Haltech would both cost an extra chunk of money for a lot of unutilized features
