Have a Turbodumb bleed valve set at 10lbs and works real good.

I love it.

OK, now it is time for insurance.

Some companies say that any LEGAL mods are fine.

Rang RTA to find out about it.

Top engineer (NSW) says "Any adjustable boost controller is illegal because it changes emissions."

So... Has anyone come across this before?

It will kill me to go back to the stock boost.

Has anyone else looked into this area re insurance etc and is there anything else that they could be able to void our insurance on???

;)

Boost controllers do change emissions, but you still may be within the legal limits even with increased boost. If you are that worried then book your car in for a test at the RTA.

It's not so much the boost controller itself that is illegal, but the potential increased emissions it creates. I think you should be ok though, a guy here (I forget his name) recently said that he had a gutted cat and it still passed the emissions test.

yep, afaik, if you change any part of the intake or exhaust you are potentially in breach of epa standards thus deeming your car unroadworthy by the RTA & defectable by the police.

finish your mods, get an engineers certificate and live without fear of defect fines.

the EPA i belive give out a plate.

now i'm not 100% sure on this... this is JUST MY understanding (before someone comes along and tell me i'm totally wrong)

Engineers

Like diffs... tailshafts... power upgrades vs brake's etc.etc.

For instance, can the body handle the 400rwkw, has the chassis been strenghened and all that jazz. All the mechanical side of the equation and ADR's. They dont care about EPA i believe.

EPA

That's the EPA bit. is the hitch.

To make a car fully compliant with aftermarket ECU's big turbos/cooler/pod/exhaust noise/extractors etc etc.

Then you have to go through the FULL EPA test, to comply with the ADR's in this area.

Now my understanding is that test is the same as what they put the new cars through.

All sorts of emission testing etc etc.

(this is where it hurts) This test costs approx $2500 and if you fail there is NO refund.

So it's something that's a fair bit of work and you need to have the car running A1.

Now like i said.

This is what i have been told by various people and i've put bits together to come up with the above.

I maybe ill informed, if i am then no doubt someone will correct me :P

y do u really care about epa or cops?? *** them both, its your car do what u like with it!! If it was up to the cops and epa we would all be driving around stock 1.5 litre 4 cyclinders which only to a top speed of 100 km/h.

you sure? i know mine was stock as a rock when i got it and i had it put on a dyno and they hooked up a boost gauge and it got up to an exact 10psi and i know of others 33 that was there on the day with no boost controller got to 10psi too

did you have and exhaust?

if so then that's the reason. The boost rises to approx 9psi once you do a full 3".

no my car was stock.. part from a hks bov and a k&n flat filter

and the other 33 was stock part from hks bov and a cat back exhaust

    • @robbo_rb180 I already have a NEO head on the shitbox 😎 Just needs beehive springs so I can rev it past the 8600 rpm limiter, then again pointless too, turbo is out of puff lol. Wen da gods let me win lotto eh?
    • Everyone I know with a90 supra at time attack aren't having issues with 3-5 fast laps so far and one is decent powered one too. Saw a k24 swapped 86 with a 8hp70 and big slicks and aero which had no drama's at QR and Manton Park. I've stuck a 25 row cooler in my setup with 8hp45/50 in the hopes of keeping the oil cool as I plan on some racing next year that 20-30min sessions. I've also geared my car so won't be using 7th and 8th gear too. @Dose Pipe Sutututu just needs to get that samsonas in already and have that tassie guy fit a head and rev it too 11ty thousand rpm.
    • My embedded systems thoughts have me sitting with GTS on this. Variation between same phone hardware, should be small. However, the internal "intensity" or "volume" amount that say Google passes to the app, will be quite different, as the underlying hardware will be passing different levels for the same volume to the Google OS. Until the app creator has had each individual phone, and set benchmarks and calibrations for each, the amount of error can be quite huge.   It can even be observed by using different phones, recording the same noise, and then playing it back, they end up soon ding different. A big reason for it, is even the different types of mics used in phones have different responses, and different frequency ranges. Then you need to get into the DSP, and the variations in those, their sample rates which then effect their frequency range, and then the quality of the DSP, and what type of hardware conversion they do to for the ADC within the DSP. Oh, and let's not forget at the low level phones are designed to cutout loud sounds. It's one of the reasons they suck in really loud environments (eg concerts). The louder you yell, the more you'll get cutout too Note DSP is Digital Signal Processor ADC is the analogue to data converter. I don't have any real data on what the variation would truly be, however, chat GPT says in general, their output is typically between +/-2dB to +/-5dB of what you're really measuring. So realistically, anything from 4 to 10dB variation is possible even with the same devices.
    • 'sif the error will be that low!
    • I do know where there is a fair few 😉
