Hey guys noticed the car playing up today.. anyhows it was idling like crap and had bout a litre of oil left (i filled it less than a month ago) Pulled apart all the cooler and intake piping and it is coated with oil...also when changing gears the car will spew white smoke out the back especially between 3 and 4th and also if I give it a rev while idling.. Sounds like seals on the turbo to me.. any other possibilities?? and if its seals whats a rebuild worth??

Sounds likely to be the turbo leaking oil. Check the oil breather lines on top of the rocker covers (or your catch can if you have one) to see if they're covered in oil too.

I reckon a turbo reco wouldn't be that expensive if you remove and replace it yourself before taking it to a workshop. Try maybe GCG for rebuild kits.

Your car spits white smoke? Odd, if the turbo isn't working properly (is it noisy?) i reckon you'd be getting black smoke as the ECU would send extra fuel trying to save the engine from misfiring. That happened to my mate's S15 when his intercooler piping had a massice hole- hardly any charge.

Have you pulled everything away from the turbo (piping etc.) to see what condition it's in?

Don't rule out the engine being rooted. Do a compression test if you're stumped. Motor might have had it. Con rod bearings could be rooted. Piston rings could be too. I guess you'd know if your engine is dying :)

The work Hiace goes through 4 ltrs of oil in a couple weeks. Engine is on it's way out (400,000kms) and it has crappy compression and munches oil up.

I'm sick of changing the oil! Did it today again

taking off the breather hoses and everything all the cooler pipes have been removed and the air intake piping.. amongst all the piping is enough oil to cover my fingers not just a lil but a thick black film

That can actually be normal. I don't have a catch can and when i ram my hand into the intake pipe, just where the breather hose goes into it, i come out with a layer all over my fingers.

Is it HEAPS of oil, or just a film?

i wouldnt think the engine is gone...but hey you never know..ive just pulkled off stuff like the bov and even the piping from the turbo and it is all covered in oil.. does anyone know what the numbers should be on the stock turbo..thgis doesnt look stock

sorry this is the r33 whoopps :) yeah think its def turbo pulling it off now and there is a lot of oil in the mouth of it..

other spots I found plenty of oil and I mean enough to leave a pool are bov piping, cooler piping, throttle body and piping and they piping from the turbo.. I did find a split hose on the rocker cover and have replaced this now as I just happened to have a spare in the same size..

also just thought id say I checked the turbo no real shaft play of anything so thats good :) at lkeast if worse comes to worst ill know its just oil seals..i've cleaned the pipes filled it with oil and put new plugs in it Ill drive it for the next few days and see how it goes..

is it worth while giving it a hard time or will everyday driving do the job?

I still believe you are yet to find the issue :)

If the motor has been damaged, you'll be getting a lot of blow-by and if all your plumbing is std that will all go into your intake, through the turbo and into the ic piping, etc.

When i cracked a piston ring land, the car sounded normal to my ears, ran and came on power normally. But as soon as my mechanic heard it idle up his driveway he knew straight away. My only indications were a small puddle of oil under the pod filter, after a track session, and it was harder to start in the mornings.

On the other hand it can be turbo seals.

So do a compression test and that would confirm the fault. If all 6 cylinders have similar figures, than your turbo seals are stuffed, if one cylinder is really lower (20+psi) than the others then its engine rebuild time.

hey guys my turbo i think, makes a noise like this RRREEEEEEEEEE lol, under load, hi revs..

i think its standard 32 but i could be wrong, still ceramic an all..

um and 15psi gets put threw it every day..

goodnight turbo?

fan belt stretchin under load?

how long left till turbo dies?

can i screw the engine if i keep it up?

sorry to hijack...

thanks chris

    • Yeah good luck out there! Will be good to see a mighty GTST going harder than the GTRs
    • i will be there 😁
    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
