TommO
Hi all, I've got a stuffed gearbox in my GTR... it currently has an R32 GTR gearbox in it after the last one broke. I've found a R33 GTR gearbox for sale that I want to buy, but it's without the transfer case. Questions: 1. Can R32 GTR transfer be used with an R33 GTR box? 2. I'm pretty sure but to check, there's no differences between R33 vspec and non-vspec gearboxes? Thanks all..!!! Tommo. Terminal
keen to find out as well, my R33 GTR gearbox in my Stagea just crapped its transfer case out, are the R32 units the same? Terminal
Yeah I'm going to get myself an R32 transfer case too. I'm pretty sure they're the same Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/213954-r33-gtr-gearbox-with-r32-gtr-transfer/#findComment-3798616 Share on other sites
ferni
I'm pretty sure they are the same as well 32/33. 34 is different. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/213954-r33-gtr-gearbox-with-r32-gtr-transfer/#findComment-3802769 Share on other sites
Madaz
^^ would mean you could pull the fuse like a R32 to put it in RWD mode how much are good 2nd hand R33 gtr box's going for out of interest Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/213954-r33-gtr-gearbox-with-r32-gtr-transfer/#findComment-3864269 Share on other sites
MrStabby
I asked the forum if i could use an R33 box in my R32 if i swapped the bellhousing and transfer case - and the answer from the gurus (IIRC Duncan and Twoogle Paul) was yes. vinnie32GTS4
^^ would mean you could pull the fuse like a R32 to put it in RWD modehow much are good 2nd hand R33 gtr box's going for out of interest wouldnt u also need the R32 atessa ecu??? cozz 33s and 34s can still send torque to the front wheels when the fuse is out. but if just changing the transfer case is enough then that would be super Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/213954-r33-gtr-gearbox-with-r32-gtr-transfer/#findComment-3866692 Share on other sites
Madaz
yeah i was never 100 percent sure why the R33 and 34 couldn't just pull the fuse i had assumed it was something internal to the transfer case if its the attesa ecu then that would mean turning your R33\34 into a burnout monster would be easier than thought my research into TCS's havnt even told me if on the R33 you can electronically keep the torque to the rears >>TCS<< Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/213954-r33-gtr-gearbox-with-r32-gtr-transfer/#findComment-3866823 Share on other sites
some_cs_student
yeah i was never 100 percent sure why the R33 and 34 couldn't just pull the fuse i had assumed it was something internal to the transfer case if its the attesa ecu then that would mean turning your R33\34 into a burnout monster would be easier than thoughtmy research into TCS's havnt even told me if on the R33 you can electronically keep the torque to the rears >>TCS<< I believe the R33/R34 transfer cases are always have some power going to the front wheels, I think its called "preloading" the system, its like 5% or a small figure....R32's didn't have this preload from what I've read (not an expert so I'm not 100% sure). But that part is different to an R32 so I don't know how the R32 GTR transfer case will work. Bellhousing is the only diff push and pull type.... easily swapped in 15mins. R32 and R33 transfers bolt on to both models... R34 does not (getrag has differrent output shaft) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/213954-r33-gtr-gearbox-with-r32-gtr-transfer/#findComment-3870025 Share on other sites

heller44
Dredging for info again.. Almost the same question but other way around.. Can you use an r33 transfer case on an r32 or do you have the inherent preload problem? 9krpm
The t/f cases are the same. Preload is from the hydraulic system (Attesa + pump). Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/213954-r33-gtr-gearbox-with-r32-gtr-transfer/#findComment-4741709 Share on other sites
BK
They are not identical. They will do the 4WD/shaft side of things no worries but no speedo readout. I have both cars and they are the same EXCEPT for the internal speedo drive gears and sensor. You can use a R32 in a R33 if you don't care about your speedo not working and vice versa. R32 is mechanical, R33 is electronic. Different size gears on pickups and internal case gears too so you can just swap pickup sensors either. You need R33 transfer in a 33 and an R32 in a 32 for speedo to work. Found out the hard way with this trying to fit a R32 transfer to my 33.
