Hey it would be great if i had lots of money to throw at my car but like i said i've only got $1000 to spend and i want some more performance...

Just so you know, all my s1 33 has done to it is...(try not to laugh)

r32 wastegate actuator,

r34 SMIC,

hi flow cat,

3in cat back

and earthed solenoid wire for constant high boost mode...

I know i'm not left with alot of options as $1000 won't go far but i want to make the most of what i have and try and spend my money on something that i will feel the power difference..

Can anyone recommend any options?

After this i'm not goin any further with the cars mods and i don't have any specific power goals i'm trying to achieve.

(I've had a lot of well meaning mates recommend stuff like upgrading injectors and fuel pump or to get a FMIC or get myself a dump pipe and other crap but i have little mechanical knowledge and i don't know whats really worth it, so hence me throwing this out to you guys.)

Any advice and personal experience would be awesome!!!

Injectors you cant do because its a stock ECU and you dont need any bigger injectors because your stock ones arent maxed out. Fuel pump once again doesnt need to be done because its not maxing out. I reckon the best bang for buck that you can do is getting a split dump pipe, something like an x-force one. They are like $350 or something and you'll atleast feal the difference. Spend the remaining money on something else.

Theres not much you can realisticly do with a $1000 that is going to give you a decent "performance upgrade".

However if you want it to handle better, spend the remaining money on front and rear sway bars, which again for the money will be the best handling modification that you can do.

Yeh i know its a bit of a drag only having such little money but i just got married and its all i really can allow so i'm tryin to make the most of it...

i probably should have been more specific but i just want more power as suspension has already been up graded to all nismo items(shocks, springs, struts ect) along with upgraded brake pads so handling and stopping is good, i don't want to go any further with that...

So a split dump pipe you think...

any thing else?

Thanks guys!!

if you shop around you should be able to get a FMIC kit and front section of your exhaust for $1000...

You should be able to fit it all yourself, they are both easy to do if your not confident just take your time...

I think the best mods are the one's you d yourself a lot more rewarding.

Apexi SAFC = Super Air Flow Computer/Controller/whatever. its a piggy back engine management device that plays with your ecu's airflow readings and uses that to tune the car. afaik, they dont make em anymore. there are a couple of good threads on here about them. do a search

Took you guys long enough....yes...an safc or some sort of engine management is the FIRST thing i would do...

You mean on stock skyline the first thing you would do is a form of engine management :D

Then get and intercooler, full exhaust and more boost which then needs to be retuned again for the new modifications throwing off the original tune......IMO engine management should be done after basic mods so you only need to potentially tune it once if thats all your doing out of the stock turbo. I reckon so far he's doing the right thing.

Lolz...let me rephrase...

In this case...it'd be the first thing i'd do...he already has an exhaust...and a 34smic...he also said he wanted to "feel" the difference...and if thats the case an safc or a better form of engine management would give the biggest gain in power and driveability...don't you think so?

how bout gettn a FMIC and help that catback of yours breath a bit better with front/dump pipes.

50kw gain i rkn

wdh is a SAFC gonna do if his car cant even breath or cool itself.

up the boost to about 12psi with the FMIC and the better flowing exhaust.

should bit u around 180-200 if your lucki

he has a SMIC (good for approx 200rwkw). FMIC is unnecessary at this stage. front pipe has already been said. SAFC is a tuning tool. he asked for bang for buck. doesnt mean reliability is thrown out the window.

a car is going to run better with a tune and front pipe than it is with a FMIC and more boost thrown at it and no tune

    • You can literally put in as much WMI as it takes to quench the combustion totally (and then back it off a little, obviously), and it will keep making more and more power. The power comes from the cooling effect of the water (and the meth) and the extra fuel (the meth, which also has massive octane). It is effectively exactly like running E85. One might be slightly better than the other, but they are damn close. But with either you can lean on the boost or the timing (or both) waaaay more than with just petrol and the results are similar. Here's the first thing I googled for an anecdotal bit of evidence. Can't access the attachment without being a gold member, but it is there for the getting if able to, or searched up elsewise perhaps. https://www.hpacademy.com/forum/general-tuning-discussion/show/wmi-vs-e85/
    • Dang, those BBS are so nice!
    • Yeah it is wild how much wider the Yokohama A050 in 255/40R17  vs Yokohama AD09 in 255/40R17 sits on the 17x9 +22 considering its even from the same brand and adjacent product family
    • Would love to see some examples of WMI making the same as E85. Only thing I've ever found is this one.  Which suggests WMI is not worth much at all.
    • And now the washer bottle looks like an orphan. You're going to have to spend money on a wrinkle black painted fabbed ally one of those. Oh, and the brake MC res. That won't look any good after you've gotten rid of the washer bottle. You going to need to go back to work to keep up with this?
