ive got a vented carbon fibre bonnet on mine, and is always out in the rain. like others have said, your engine bay does get abit dirtier, and after heavy rain the belts squeek for afew seconds on start up then everything is good as gold !

I've seen vented bonnets with covers so you can cover it up in wet weather, and drop it out during warm weather to allow more air to flow through.

some_cs_student's bonnet is great.

There is a plate that sits under the vent and is bolted in. On hot days, unscrew the bolts and you get more air flow / vent out the heat.

If it rains bolt it back in.

Also remember some cars came standard with vents, ie. GTR R34 V-Spec's and up, Mitsubishi Evos all got stock bonnet vents and STi's... So in stock form their probley still can get some water in... Maybe take a look at them and see how they avoid getting water in.

I have a 99 34gtr vspec however it doesnt have any vents in the bonnet at all. This is the style i was after

However i want it painted bayside blue to match the car. Though it looks like alot of water would get in...

If it wasnt too much trouble to swap the bonnets I could just put the normal one back on if I were worried about rain, it either rains for days or not at all here in Brisbane anyway generally.

depends on the design of the bonnet too. if its just one vent near the front, water is likely to fall between engine and radiator - causing no harm

That's where mine is... the radiator fan pushes hot air straight out the vents, and I am yet to have a problem with the rain, and have driven it plenty... not even getting squeaky belts...

Don't even get water in the valley :D

Nice Z-Tune style bonnet.

But if ya still worried, you can sorce a V-Spec bonnet. Its actualy got a NACA Duct / Scoop - When properly implemented, it allows air to be drawn into an internal duct, often for cooling purposes, with a minimal disturbance to the flow.

Yeah i got that "Z-Tune Style" bonnet and i have the plate underneath the vent. Haven't had any probs with rain but then again i never really unbolt the plate cos i can't be bothered lol. Sydney weather is also unpredictable lately so i just stay safe.

    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
    • EMU Classic. For what I need it to do I see no reason to upgrade. Link and Haltech would both cost an extra chunk of money for a lot of unutilized features
