I remember there has been fair few topics/debates about HID kits in Series 2 R33.

I was skeptical at first and i read all the points and thought fair enough, i dont think i will ever buy HID's because of those reasons..

Did someone say since they are projector type headlights, they will scatter everywhere?? Thought that was the main reason?? cant remember now

ANYWAYS!!!

I got my hands on a jap brand HID Kit - BELLOF.. Looked it up on negun and its worth a lot!!! i mean a lot lol..

So it was basically plug and play.. Been in the car for a few days now and i love it!!

I honestly DONT think the light scatters or you can see any DEAD SPOTS..

I have seen some cars with hid kits and you can notice a dead spot, or the left headlight shoots futher out to the left than right..

But im finding this HID kit to be perfect.. Been driving around at night for the past few nights and havnt been flashed at all..

Maybe there is a difference between cheap and expensive HID kits?

Either way im happy and i guess thats what counts.

Heres a pic that comparing with my old yellow bulbs.

Perhaps the GURU's from those debate threads can comment?

Or if you need a particular shot please let me know and i will take it.

Would love to hear what you think.

Im using supervision 6000k in my skyline, and i cant complain at all. Ive used HIDs on numerous cars, and since the first time i used it, ill never use normal lights again!!

i would recommend them to anyone.

Gald to hear brendan.. Supervision- they phillips?

skyline17 - yup its the screws. The ones on the back move it up and down.. The ones near the grill area moves it left and right!! But dont adjust that

Sorry wouldnt know what else to do if the screws didnt work.

With projector lenses, the light would scatter less than reflectors (what you've got).

Can you get another picture with your car ~10m away from the wall? And have it in a dark area so that the only light would be coming from your car? Your picture is too close to the wall to really say anything about the glare.

Oh so i have reflectors?

No worries, will take a pic tomorrow night!! feeling lazy now lol..

Yep, from what I can see in your avatar. If you had projectors in the R33 headlights, you would already have HIDs (series 3 GTR come with them I think it was).

not sure if they are philips... but i know they are worth a few dollars..

i love them =)

The lights that are annoying are the new ones that change colours. Like from yellow to blue.. (not the actual light being emitted, but the bulb it self)

I know the honda accord euro uses them... they always catch my eye in my rear view mirror ..

Are you talking about the flicker? From normal light to sometimes blue, red, pink?

That's from the projectors. It happens when light refracts off the lens. White light is made up of 3 main colours. Each colour is bent according to their speeds of travel. The light you see are the separate colours, nothing really to do with the globes.

what did ya mean by a mid-night drive?

Speaks for itself really doesnt it?

A Night drive... somewhere in the middle of it?

:P he is meaning a drive somewhere very dark :D

i love my hid in my r34, 6500  had them for 2 years now, no problem.

although the other night i was being followed by a lancer with the brightest f**kers ive ever seen, i folded the side mirror down and the rear view moved, but it looked like the inside of ym car was in the blaarring sun.... it pissed me off so bad, and ever time i tried to get away or slow down s he could pass hes stay on me.

i know thios is off topic, but im fairly sure he was using HID in the wrong type of headlights it pissed me off, and made it impossible to drive safely.

rant over :)

Yep, chances are these guys were running HID's in their reflector housing headlights. Having them in projectors(R32's) are bad enough. They produce HEAPS of glare. Having them in reflectors will be much worse. We'll see how siddr20's lights come out though. Sounds like he spent extra cash for quality globes.

Yeah.. sure.. their aweseome.. for the driver..

not for on-comming drivers.. let alone in the rain..

Couldn't agree more.

the reason oneside shines further then the other is because its not aligned properly..

(dont know if anyone has mentioned that yet but i couldnt be bothered reading the whole thread)

hid's are the best..

ill never go back to standard crap yellow bulbs lol

    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
    • 310mm rotors will be avilable from Australia, Japan, and probably a few other places. Nothing for the front can be put on the back.
    • The filter only filters down to a specific size. Add to that, the filter is AFTER the pump. So it means everything starts breaking your pump even if its being filtered out.
    • Just like in being 14mm too small (296mm) makes it not fit, being 14mm too big (324mm) it also won't fit. You want to find the correct rotor.
    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
