just looking of a cheap way to make power and i came across a nistune ecu remaping.

i know dr drift does a remaping for the 33.

but also heard about the z32 ecu that is modded to suit the 33 just wanted to no if someone knows someone that has done it and if its worth chasing down.

rb20det ecu's are easy to remap and they can be used in r33's. its been done in WA and QLD but no tuner in NSW wants to touch the idea

also there's a member here called toshi who can send remap your r33 much cheaper than you would think. search him up and his prices / options

i rang hyperdrive in WA, hey told they dont have the setup/software etc. to remap a rb25det(R33)

he told me that the people that made up nis-tune, wer working on a way to remap rb25det...

and i asked him if i could uses a rb20det (r32) ecu, but he said that the harness/plugs are totally different..

becoz i've heard of people in the east doind this....

dont no about this??? so if someone can confirm this....

but u would also lose the inlet VCT...

so yeah...

i've pulled out both rb20 and 25 ecu's. they look like they are a plug in matter. but will need a tune to run...

maybe i missed something but why not just use an r33 ecu, i emailed dr drift a while back and he didnt mention not being able to use my r33 ecu, is there any other reason that i have missed?

Yeah the r33 is a bit of a pain, this is apparently due to nissan changing to hitachi H8 chip.

You need a daughter board to use an emulator to enable you to make changes real time and these are unfortunately expensive.

There are guys out there that do R33 tuning but they would have an ecu with daughterboard installed to do the tune and the burn that data onto a H8

chip and put that into a 64 pin socket in your ecu.

So yes it's possible to "chip" R33 ecu's but it ain't cheap.

this is a quote i got back from dr drift, i little bit more expensive than a pfc but it has its benefits over pfc as well.

Nah PFC does have better map resolution over std ecu 20 x 20 over 16 x 16.

Not enough for me though, I'd rather keep the knock retard function of the std ecu rather than a winky check engine light.

i tend to agree, apparently the pfc display will tell you there is too much knock but i wouldnt have the handset on display so i would never see it.

i know the pfc is a popular item but it seems that the std ecu just has a few more safety features that i like, this is also coming from someone who already owns a pfc.

Ah Ok, I was thinking bout using my r33 ecu but being in SA It seems easier to go a z32 ecu with nistune.

Besides nistune allows realtime tuning though consult port and dataloging, which is really what I wan't.

Yes it is real time ;) I'd assume that dr drift would intstall a daughter board into the r33 ecu you'd then use an emulator to modify the rom and then burn a new chip with your tune and your done.

Some tuners use a development ecu which has the daughterboard installed and use that to develop the tune and then burn and install a "chip" into the customers ecu.

The advantage of nistune is that you plug your laptop into your consult plug via a consult interface and make the adjustments, no emulator or programmer required.

I believe that you can use nistune on a r33 ecu with a daughter board installed.

Yes nistune does work with a cheaper emulator than I use, which means more workshops will have the ability to tune R33s in real time very soon. Also, as the R33 eprom based boards are now available, compared to the old single burn expensive H8 style processor maps, means no additional charge for retunes on new mods etc etc on eprom boarded ecus... h8 processor replacement rather than daughter boards are still a good option for those not looking at many retunes.

    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.

    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
