okay so the week that the new GTA comes out my 360 has the 'red ring of death'... this is my 2nd 360 too... the first one I bought when they first came out, it lasted for quite a while before it died... so I replaced it with a cheap secondhand console and gave the broken one to a mate to get fixed (which he did and it died again 2 days later)... now my 2nd one is toast too

so really I need advice on where to go from here...

1. Get 360 fixed... wait and hope for the best

2. Buy a new pov pack 360 (I have about 10 games and controllers and all that junk)

3. Buy a PS3 (sell 360 games and junk)

4. Forget consoles and buy myself a gaming pc

Number 3 is not really preferred at the moment as I have recently bought a 40" Bravia full HD blablah and can't see myself hooking up the computer to it to play games (or maybe I would, wireless keyboard on the coffee table anyone?)... so therefore I would be forking out for another LCD screen as I don't think my flatmates would be too happy if I moved my TV into my room...

What would you guys do...

Buy the ps3, a fair chunk better graphix then 360 (it is newer afterall), comes with all the cool things like wireless so you can stream movies straight from your PC to your TV and browse the net. Plus Blueray would look mighty fine with that new tv of yours and you get to conect it through HDMI which is always good

I'm on my 4th Xbox 360 but when I bought it I also bought a 2 year gaurantee which allowed me to swap it for a new one when ever I got the ring of death and that was from EB games. I would try to do something like that cos I have a crap load of games like you do, but thats my two cents

Yep had that issue with the plug in fans before... unfortunately that's not the problem this time:(

A 2 year warrenty would have been good, don't let anyone buy a 360 without one!

Still leaning towards a PS3 at this stage but I might just grab whatever is cheapest and quickest cos I wanna play GTA4!

360 is a nice console, but an unreliable piece of crap. I can't think of anyone I know who owns one who has not had some issue. conversely I don't personally know any PS2 owner who has suffered a problem with their PS3. that should seal it.

I don't think they will be able to fix my 360... I may have gone a bit rodney king on it... allegedly

really not sure about getting another one... may act out the gameplay if it broke while playing GTA4

I can just see the news headlines... man goes on rampage inspired by violent new video game and the fact microsoft can't make a reliable console! lol

mines away at the moment getting fixed. lasted 9 months........quick of topic question. when the fix it does it come with another 12 mth warranty or do i just only have 3 months left?

i think if it breaks again i will go ps3!!!

i had the ring of death once when i didnt have the intercooler pushed in properly in the back,, if u dont have a intercooler u should get 1. id say theyll save u a lot of cash in the long run

Drop in a FMIC... :);)

Ive got a ps3.. never had trouble with it...

however, ive also got a gaming pc... and i use the gaming pc more then the ps3...

Both give out pretty good GFX, but my pc is a bit better...

even tho my ps3 is hooked up to a 1080 HD lcd screen + HDMI cable.

So i would pick between ps3 or gaming pc.. i would lean towards gaming pc as it has alot more uses then the ps3, but also will cost you more.

Either way, throw the 360 out the window

lol fmic for the win... any1 that owns a xbox 360 buy the intercooler cause apperently the biggest proplem with em is over heating im currently looking at direct water injection and maybe running it on higher octane fuel to keep things cool... xbox 360 and rb20s FTW

    • Haha I do that.. thats when it chirps..The bit point for me is almost non-existent. Otherwise I stall it. But yes, in terms of performance, the clutch is solid af.
    • Greg speaks wisdom. These dirty old Datsuns are only value when they are cheap. When they are not cheap, there is no value. Sounds contradictory, but it's true. We are now 20 years past the hey day of modifying cheap 90s JDM cars for small amounts of money. This is a different world. If you are rich and can afford not to care about what is effectively wasting money on an old Datto shitter, then I have no reason to argue against it. But if you are wanting to experience what we all experienced back in 2005 (and I bought my car last century!) then there is no way to do it.
    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
    • Damn you’ve done well, definitely snapping necks.
