Hi Guys, Ive got basicly a stock R34 GTT.

The wife has said I can spend a few $$ on it :D :D

I want to warm it up a bit.

Budget is somewhere between $3000 and $5000.

Cant be too loud or Droney afterwards, its a car for daily use.

Whats the recommendations for the best bang for the buck?

I was thinking along the lines of

Pod Filter

Bleed Valve

Exhaust

Intercooler

Is that a reasonable start?

Any recommendations on brands / things to avoid?

Whats the Turbosmart E Boost like? Someone recommended one to me. Better getting this than a mechanical bleed valve?

Any ideas what increase in performance I would be looking at?

Lastly, wheres a place that does a good job at a reasonable price?

I bought it from Unique Autosports and Im quite happy to go back there. Anyone have good or bad experiences from them?

thats a start,

1st things i done

hks pod filter

bleed valve- boost up to 12psi

3'' exhaust,3''high flow cat, 3.5'' cat back

yet to get cooler but its in the process of being made.

saving up for apexi avcr- elec. boost controller

performance gain would be noticible with a good dyno tune,

UAS is where i get alot of my parts from and find them very good.

with just pod, zorst, and boost up i hit 146kw@wheels..

hope that helps..

cheers...

get a full exhaust and dont buy a bleed valve get an electric one instead. you can get fairly cheap second hand items such as the profec b. if your not looking for big hp you dont need the front mount intercooler. air filters also dont do that much. spend the rest of the money on some good suspension and a power fc. :(

I dynoed my car with a K&N panel filter and got 176kw@6007rpm with 1304Nm @4713rpm.

I fitted a 2 3/4 in stainless cat back exhaust and had the cat removed(because we can in NZ:p ) and then redynoed it and got 195kw@6660rpm and 1398Nm @4655rpm

This was on a dynapack pro V5 hub dynamometer.

All figures are at the wheel hubs.

You seem to on the right track, apart from the bleed valve. Forget about that and get an electronic boost controller. But a SAFC might be a good idea as well, to keep it from leaning out at higher boost.

19kw just from removing the cat?

I didnt think they were that restrictive.

Im assuming that was the factory one you removed?

I removed the cat and fitted a 2 3/4in kakimoto stainless cat back exhaust. That gained me 19rwkw.

A SAFC is a super air flow controller, it enables you to controll the air/fuel mixtures by tricking the computer some how. I'm not really up to play with them, but have heard a few success stories from people fitting them.

i'd go:

full aftermarket exhaust (one with centre muffler aswell as rear, since you dont want it too loud)

front mount intercooler

electronic boost control + apexi safcII, or can go for a more serious aftermarket ecu. try get these ones installed at the same time so you don't have to tune it more than once (save $).

Turbosmart E Boost is probably good, but you can also get jap brand EBC (electronic boost controllers) for a similar price. its up to you really.

instead of getting the safcII why not spend a little more for a greddy E manage. You can even find second hand power fc's for a little more than a thousand that will save you from spending money on the safc now when you will probably uprgrade to a a programmable computer in the future anyway.

GTS4 - are your kw readings to the wheels or to the fly wheel?

Check out this months issue of "Speed" the magazine. It has a RB25DET tune guide. It's worth a little look. Also got info on the V35 GT-R as well. Personaly I am adding a R34 FMC, Apexi Power FC with hand controler, air pod and exhaust to mine. Should go well I reckon. You'll get plenty of power before you even think on engine internals :P Just remeber they love to breath and the standard ECU's are full of holes.

the R34 intercooler is plenty big enough for the stock turbo.

It's thicker than the R33 cooler. If any of you R34 guys want to palm off your old stock intercooler let me know and I'll ping you $150 for it.

Get a light flywheel (and clutch while your at it).

Do the exhaust, all the way. Thermal wrap the dump & front pipe.

Diff cradle kit

Panel filter.

Boost controller.

For starters.

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
