are you f**king serious? commodore owner's had a RACE and KILLED elderly people on great western highway, withint the coming day's the police announced operation "taipan" which was a blitz on japanese import's.....

dont give me your sob story crap

Operation Taipan was established on 22 August, 2007 and focuses on inappropriate driver behaviour in the Sydney Metropolitan area.

Thirty-six police officers are specifically targeting illegal street racing, ‘burnout’ offences, anti-social driver behaviour, and vehicle and traffic law compliance as part of the operation.

Operation Taipan has so far resulted in 399 arrests and 829 charges laid and more than 7,860 traffic and 2,207 speeding infringements issued along with 660 defect notices and 17,900 vehicles stopped for road breath testing. Also, 135 people have been charged with drink driving charges and 55 vehicles confiscated.

END OF STORY!!!

Police don't just target imports.. If anyone actually does what the news, I see these idiots in BMW's, HOLDEN Barina's, Toyotas etc. have their cars confiscated because they were "street racing" or doing something stupid. Did anyone actually see that 16yo who took his daddy's Merc out got caught and had it confiscated?

The only reason if you do get pulled over in an import is because you're either doing something stupid, have something illegal on your car or they just want to have a sticky beak which I know some police officers who are really into cars and just want to have a look see.

Ooh, an exciting thread.

Jeez but yeah how did the cops catch the dude if he was actually going 265k? i think its abit skewed the news, maybe it was going 200 and plus cop cars aren't THAT fast or neither are they THAT good at driving to chase the dude at 265km/ph or neither are they THAT gutful enough to attempt it. :D

I reckon an SS Comode could probably go that fast and I can tell you that they are that good at driving. My mate was HWP in Canberra and they have their own private track which they practice on all the time. Not only no costs but they even get paid to practice. I've also been in a HWP car on a high speed chase (years ago, prolly wouldn't be allowed these days) and seen the skills on the streets. Also I can guarantee you they have the guts. Lastly, since the guy pulled over they only would have had to come out onto the pretty much straight fwy, floor it until the guy they were chasing saw the lights then cruise up to a stop. Hardly taxing.

what an absolute idiot. mainly because he actually stopped :|. not very hard to pul into a street, dump the car in the car park of a set of flats, den report it stolen and catch a cab home :) (by the time they actualy would have gotten to him, hede be long gone).

therefore the fact that he actually chose to stop and not pull a chase (which he would have most likely gotten away from) shows that he has some common sense. so plz no need to be keyboard warriors. afterall im sure most of us have broken the law for speeding. so what makes u any better than him?

Yeah cos there's so many blocks of flats around the Hume fwy. Side streets every 50m too. Ditto cabs.

You know what sucks.. I bet that he will get a worse punishment than someone who has committed a way worse crime...

Probably. Parity in law and punishment is not a concept our governments - or out people for that matter - are interested in.

as if you'd even stop
i knowww. if anything, it shows hes got more common sense then most of us. i sure as hell wouldnt have stopped. nor would most people on this forum. so seriously, let it go ;)

I think most people on this forum would stop. There's no where to run out there and they can radio ahead for other cop cars to intercept you.

sorry i just found it funny how he think's comodore's are more targeted then jap import's...

i thought i was being nice :S

/shut's mouth

It's probably all just a matter of where you sit. If it's in an import you think it's imports that are being targeted, if it's a comode then it's comodes that get targeted. Certainly the last time I saw an article on street racers being caught with a pic I counted about 7 VL's, 2 newer comodes, a falcon and something else I can't remember.

The only reason if you do get pulled over in an import is because you're either doing something stupid, have something illegal on your car or they just want to have a sticky beak which I know some police officers who are really into cars and just want to have a look see.

Not true. If you are young you have a good chance of being 'randomly' pulled over. If you drive a 'hoon' type car then your chances are probably tripled. I used to get pulled over heaps when I was younger in my v8 days. In 4.5 years of owning the Skyline I can only think of 3 times. Well justified on at least 2 of those occasions and possibly on the 3rd.

I wouldn't quite say that Adam. As you know I'm young and drive either the GTR or GTST daily.

I have maybe been pulled over once or twice over the couple of years that I have owned it but I have never been harassed.

That can possibly be attributed to your distinct lack of penis

The radio dude read on nissansilvia.com a post from the alledged 263km/h speeder.

they say he wrote 'I was in 4th gear, still had 5th to go,,,i coulda clocked 310 i reckon.

can someone who has a nissansilvia account check this out for us and link us up?

Well my car sure as shit couldn't do it, even if the gears could, the engine couldn't :D

Went through the NS website (such a cluttered design, and now it's all bunched into hardtuned.net) and they have pretty much cleared up any info that was there...

I will say to all the clowns who said they would run you really are thinking with your arse. for one thing if you want to willfully break the law and are willing to escalte your crimes in order to escapte a speeding fine, then keep it to yourself. posting about your hardcore wannabe mentality on the forum is just plain stupid. you might as well youtube yourself comitting some nice petty crime and see how far that gets you.

also, before you run think about what you have to lose. on the one hand you pull over, get your pants pulled down a good spanking by the judge, most likely accompanied by a licence suspension, a thousand or two in fines and maybe even a bond. on the other hand you run. the police radio ahead and ask for more cars in the area to assist in the chase. they are able to intercept you further up the road, and may even run you off the road (thus badly damaging your car, which likely no insurance will cover as you were engaged in a criminal act). now you have police that are fired up and likely to give you a little kicking whislt yelling 'stop resisting' just in case someone is watching. now you get charged. you will get a criminal conviction which may prevent you getting certain jobs or even travelling to certain countries. hell you may even lose the job you have now. and at worst you may even earn yourself a nice trip to long bay for a few months. or even worse your fully sick skillz may desert you as you attemp a corner 50km/h too fast and you crash and die. all over a speeding fine.

when you rationally look at the risk and benefit of running vs not running you would have to be a moron to even consider running away over a speeding ticket. I mean it's suck a petty thing. it's not like you are driving away from a bank robbery, nothing really bad will happen when you pull over.

BUT man u can't really say "speeding fine" lol, its jail term at that speed for sure. So i guess its worth it if there was a closer exit nearby

I will be very surprised if he does a single days jail over this one.

I think what people may be missing is the complete and utter stupidity of doing such a speed on the road & the completely indefensible nature of this fkwits actions.

The bloke was lucky to be stopped before he killed himself or others.

No amount of "my car is in better condition than 90% of the cars on the road", nor "i am a really good driver" nor any other bullshit reasons can ever explain away the inevitability of a terminally bad result from such willfully dumb behaviour. The word culpable comes to mind.

Personally I was nearly cleaned up by a nutbag in an Evo doing a Vmax run as I was on the way home from a track day. I didn't enjoy the experience.

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
