Wanted To Borrow

I desperately need to borrow a working Hicas computer. My hicas light comes on and my power steering dies when i turn my 33 off and then on again. My hicas wont speak to the scanner so I need to borrow another computer and head back to Synergy so i can find out if I need to buy another computer or weather it's something else in the car messing up. I'm trying to solve this problem instead of just putting a lock bar in and taking the bulb out... which after a lengthy google search seems to be main solution LOL!!!

Please anyone? :)

i have a spare for an r32 gtr but im pretty sure theyre not interchangable with 33's due to 33's being electronic and 32's being hydraulic... tho if you check and find they're the same I can loan it to you

-D

EDIT - If you're running an aftermarket ECU, consult won't talk to hicas as it requires the stock ECU to initialise and translate the signals - if you have the stock ECU, plug it back in and see if the scanner will pick it up

Heya man, hows the 32? I have nfi if its stock ECU or not, I assume it is as the entire car bar exhaust is stock but who knows..

If I can't get this solved I'm getting rid of the 33.. had enough

take it to a specialist like boostworx or wilall who know many ways to get codes out of your vehicle before you throw in the towel. I had a hicas issue that pissed me off for 18 months but when I found out what was wrong (simple boss kit incompatability) it made the research all the worth while.

unscrew the passenger side kick panel on the left side - it will be a max of 5 bolts (3 on a 32)

you'll see your ecu, if it doesnt say nissan then its not stock

hicas is relatively easy to replace with a lock bar, i believe its a couple hundred dollars, but then you need that bar certified to be street legal, and there are many engineers around. I believe rory thompson can certify a lock bar for $500 odd, but don't quote me on it.

If you want to fix your hicas, be prepared to swap individual components. I personally like hicas and was happy to do the work, however a lock bar may well be a better (quicker) solution.

Its all about which direction u want to go. And if that hicas light comes on and doesnt affect your driving ability at all, do what the japanese do - remove the bulb!

Holy crap that is almost a weeks pay just getting it certified. That is way more money than I'm prepared to spend on this car again, especially after being told o2 sensor is dead and that's $165, plus coilpacks might be on the way out as it's almost stalling taking off from lights when it warms up. I just spent $2k getting major service and alarm so there is $0 cash left to spend for a very long time *sigh. Wish I NEVER bought a skyline. My shitty calibra was less trouble than this head case.

Synergy sourced a Hicas for me to try out which is orsum. Just hope it will work as the parts interpreter said he found 5-6 different model numbers lol.. Find out tuesday if it works or not. Here's hoping it does then I will just need to find a Hicas to buy :D Or sell the car.

Aye, skylines are rather expensive but when you get everything working well, the sheer driving pleasure is second to none. Boost in second around a corner and get a big sloppy grin on your mug, then it doesn't hurt the wallet so much.

Theres always a few things to do when you've just bought a skyline. I too have done the major service, replaced o2 sensors and coilpacks, among many many other things, however I don't regret a cent.

If you can't afford it to be certified, then don't worry about it until if/when you get defected - its not a must do thing. Simply get the lock bar fitted, wheels aligned and you'll be done for around the $200 mark (i think, not sure how much lock bars are - theyre not much tho).
