hey guys, am sadly parting with the gtr due to paying over $100 a week to fill it and it not being very practical but i need some advice.

basically i'm going for a hatch, probably either a mazda 3 or a golf. question though - i'm really keen on the idea of putting whatever i get on gas, but what can you put on gas? obviously the petrol cars will go fine on gas, but what about turbo petrol or turbo diesel? cheers guys!

The use of LPG on diesel cars is not the same as on Petrol cars.

In petrol cars it's used as replacement fuel

In diesel cars it is an additive to the fuel.

You should read some more about it before going ahead as it is two different applications with varying results.

Personally I have heard good things about LPG being used on diesel, in the way of fuel economy and power increases.

Well firstly I would look into how much you will save on fuel v the cost of converting.. yes you get the rebate back.. but how long do you need to wait..

and then you still gotta pay for some of it.. and you need to work out how much you will save and then see how long it will take to "make that money back in savings"

as jason has stated it isnt the same.. yes you can covert with turbo.. but also if your not dedicating to lpg and going duel.. wont petrol/lpg be the better option as diesel is shite atm and couple of times has ran out at servos..

also something to think about.. when all these coversions are done and more rely on gas.. do you think the government isnt goin to raise the tax on it.. and companies wont charge more?

yeah but no point paying $2000 - $3000 to convert... wait 5months for refund of $2000.. then find you save $10 - $20 a week and taking 1 -2 yrs to make your money back.. for some the cost to convert doesnt weigh upto the cost you save..

research is what he needs to do.. and i gave a point to research about.. he's think bout this as he wants to save running costs.. so it was worth mentioning

2-3k would buy you some very basic mods for a skyline.

More power and a far better driving car, for less fuel..I'd suggest it's well worth it, I know 1 or 2 people that would be very happy to spend 2-3k to get a 20% performance gain in their skyline..Difference is they won't be spending less on fuel afterwards.

It really is a win/win :D

Been thinking about lpg for my daily as well. LPG has been 60.9 cents at my local servo all year.

Yes, lpg uses more to go the same distance. Many people say 33% more which would make the comparative LPG cost 80 cents a litre which is still half price.

In my situation I use at present $60 a week in fuel so on LPG it would be $30. A $3,000 conversion minus the $2,000 rebate, and the remaining $1,000 would be paid off in 34 weeks.

If I can get a system that uses less than 33% more than petrol then it will pay itself even faster.

Converting my daily to gas was the best decision i've ever made, i now pay 37 bucks to fill up and it gets me 420 km's. It costed me 2750 to convert it and the 750 would have been payed off in less then half a year, except gas has doubled in price since i converted my car and hopefully it will stay at 60 cents. Problem is the government are pricks, we are paying for imported gas prices even though we get it from our country... bastardos. Anyway i got my refund in less than one week. Problem is my car is now as weak as a stick... up a hill with AC on... no go.

ive done hunderds of gas conversions altho not onto diesal or the newer direct injection but as a rule of thumb you should use 1.2 lt of gas to go the same distance on a litre of petrol most turbo cars run great on lpg we did a mazda rx3 turbo mwe converted that to run straightn lpg only went like a cut snake .

my ac cobra 302 windsor was a straight lpg conversion no worries with that one either.

most of our customers are getting there rebate back in 10 to 14 days

cheers mid life crisis

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
