well dropped off my car at trojasn today and pauls first thoughts is that the turbo needs replacing, so what are optiosn in this situation so im not talking to them blind. os if i could get ideas, or websites to lolok at the would be great, or if someones been in the same situation

refurbish (i guess this depends on condition or current turbo)

buy a 2nd hander

buy a garret replacement

or a new one with all new fittings

You could rebuild it, though that is expensive and you are still stuck with a stock turbo.

You could replace it with a 2nd hand stock turbo ~$300, no guarantee that the turbo works but its cheap.

You could replace it with a Garrett unit some are bolt on.

You could replace it with a HKS GT-RS kit. Expensive but it comes with everything and is a fantastic bolt on turbo if you only want to make ~250-260kw (provided you upgrade the support systems for it).

yeah jon straight away showed me the hks turbo, look im happy with the 194rwk, but the temptation of 240 is pretty big, plus the hks comes with braided lines and new turbo bits and pieces, what sort of supporting mods would you need for 240/260????

Fuel pump, larger injectors ( nismo 555cc / stock S15 480cc ), after market ECU. The hks kit comes with all the new oil and water lines, gaskets and such. Everything else should be fine (assuming you have FMIC, ~3" turbo back exhaust, boost controller)

Edit. Forgot about the clutch. The stock one wont like that much power :happy:

john probably would have told you bout the KKR turbos. john put the KKR430 on mine and im very happy with it, it feels very responsive and cheap i made 252kw with it. a friend of mine had john put on the KKR 480 and made 300 for not much more but with standard engine i stuck with the 430

i have aftermarket clutch, ecu and the other parts not sure of pump and injectors. whats the difference with kkr and gtrs hks turbos, and ben if i cold get a look at one point that would be great,

mang if you dont mind how much the 430 set u back installed, im only after 200rwkw but wouldnt mind going up to 240rwkw, lol, i like even numbers

Hks made by Garrett to Hks specs, so made in USA, ball bearing turbo, say $3000 for a kit.

KKR made by KKR in Korea, bush turbo, say $800 plus water/oil lines $250.

Give or take a few $$.

If your poor, and don't intend keeping the car - or inversely the turbo - forever, go the KKR.

If you can afford it go the HKS, its like comparing an excel to a corolla, you get what you pay for.

HPI had a write up on the KKR a while ago, issue 84.

hmmm, more possibilities this is good, why did you take it off, at what ks???

I have a stock S1 turbo you can take for $200. It doesnt have shaft play (or very little that goes with oil pressure) and only did 15psi a few times, but ran near stock most of its life.

Plus you learnt u want a new clutch now (or at least adjustment on yours) hehe

If a S1 turbo works on your car, datto's sounds like the best option. I was also thinking Alex, if you were lookin at mine for a rebuild - might as well rebuild your own hehe

    • Input shaft bearing. They all do it. There is always rollover noise in Nissan boxes - particularly the big box. Don't worry about it unless it gets really growly.
    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
