hi everyone

Not the worst of accidents but I had my own little brush with death today.. I was coming from Quakers Hill PkWY to turn right onto Sunnyholt Rd..it had just started to drizzle.. I misgudged my speed and lost control (in the middle turning lane) as I was turning the car began veering towards the right .. I turned the wheel to the left to correct it and ended up crossing over the median strip.. spinning to a stop (ended up facing Quakers Hill pkWY) in the bus lanes.. scared the shit out of me because I had cars both to my left and right and I have no idea how I didn't right the car off.. or hit anyone in the process.. one of the scariest moments in my life (besides giving birth - in both cases I thought I was gonna die)

So anyways.. the car seemed fine.. until I noticed a huge dint in my rear right wheel's rim.. I basically f*cked the wheels alignment and it's pushed in slightly because I must have hit the gutter going over the median strip and now the car's not driveable over 50km/h max..

I'm so pissed off at myself...

I know I have to get the wheel's alignment fixed.. I just hope I don't have to get a new drive axle.. or rear axle..

Has this happened to anyone?.. Thought I might just ask people that know about cars and skylines in particular.. will post some pix..

similar incident happend to my mate in an r34 gtt. we were suprised to discover he ended up needing a whole new rear subframe/control arms etc etc

do you remember how much it cost him in all.. where's your mate live? where did he have it repaired?

In march my car had an insident with a lump of concrete that smashed my rim and put my wheel out of alignment, only difference is that mine was a front hit.

Here are some pics

The concrete block punched a hole through the rim.

Wheel, slightly out of alignment... lol

Lower control arm and tie rod where bent

Castor rod a little distorted

Difference between a straight lower control arm and a bent one

Difference between a straight tie rod and a bent one

The parts cost me:

New set of rims $1700 (you don't have to go that much, I just did )

Lower control arm $50 from a wrecker

Castor rod $100 from a wrecker

Tie rod around $85 from Nissan Parramatta

Wheel alignment $68

I fixed everything myself exept for the alignment, so I probably saved a few dollars there.

I hope this helps

Thanks for all the help..

HuH..I was hoping it would be something little..

pj-33 dammit what's going on with Sydney... why is everything everywhere but syd.?

Cassbo.. ok you've given me some hope!

Looks like I'm leaving it at my parents house to get towed to be fixed.. will have to pay my rents back..

Cassbo.. how does your car work now... is it a smooth ride?

I just want it to be fixed so that I can drive my baby again.. how much do u think it would be at a repair shop? 500? 600?

Sorry to hear... but at least there isn't any panel damage....

SSS should have most parts second hand that you will need... just work out what you need and give em a call...

That's where Cass got his stuff from... and if you can have someone to install it for you then you will save a heap of $$ too

I know your feeling, I found the guard rail at 100km/h today, not a pretty result, but the car's still straight, and myself and the better half walked away from it, which is all that counts in the end.

Car's a mess, but looks to be mainly panel damage at the moment, am seriously annoyed, but at the same time releived that it was only the car and not someone I loved, or another road user.

Note to all, if your not overtaking, MOVE THE f**k OVER so the people that are comfortable doing the speed limit can continue on without having to change directions.

B.

that is a greasy intersection that one....its just down the street from my house..Sorry to hear about it happening to a skyline....should have been one of the many morons in SS commodores that come flying up and down Quakers hill pkwy all the time

The car rides just as smooth as before. It pulls ever so slightly to the left, but I'm not sure if it did this before I bent stuff, not to mention the camber of the road will make the car want to do that any way.

$600 (not including parts) in my head doesn't sound unreasonable, but thats only my guess if you did about the same damage to your car as mine. I would allow for more, but thats just me

Put it this way, my insurance excess was going to be $2800. So far I have paid $2044 with my car being about 90% of what it used to be, aesthetic stuff, the front bar still has damage, but I drive my car every day and everywhere!

Thanks so much for all your help guys :D ..

The funniest thing is I don't normally go that way.. I just came from my friends house in Dean Park and just wanted to visit before bringing my kids down to my parents for the day..

I am very lucky because my kids and I all came out unscratched.. my baby isabella is 6mnths old and she came out all smiles..

I was in complete shock because I knew it was going to be greasy and made a mental note not to fang the car around anywhere... esp around a turn.. scariest feeling when you're not in control of the car.. I am sooo fortunate not to have hit anyone else.. I was really shaken because only a few metres away from where the car stopped there was a father with his two young kids and I'll never forget the look on his face.. the fear.. he didn't let go of his kids till I had driven off..

I'm lucky my uncle is a mechanic and he'll be able to source out some parts for me, he's coming to have a look at the car this arvo.. I'm just waiting for the verdict... :(

turbo_brian .. sorry to hear about your misfortune.. you're right we're very lucky none of our loved ones were hurt.. had I been on a narrow street I would not have been so lucky..

msnismo, cassbo, GTR_32U, Duncan, Adriano, Bazzie, Thanks for the help and support..

JUST A WARNING TO ALL.. SLOW DOWN IN THE WET.. PARTICULARLY DAYS WHERE IT HAS JUST DRIZZLED BECAUSE THE ROADS ARE REALLY GREASY.. I WAS NOT EVEN SPEEDING AND I LOST CONTROL.. LEAVE THE SPEEDING AND DRIFTING FOR THE RACE TRACK..

The best thing to do when that happens is to take your foot off the accelerator completely, it usually corrects itself.

Anyone who has done a lot of skidpans/driver training and wet weather driver should know to back off while its wet. It's common sense, which unfortunatly a lot of people don't have these days. Even when I'm driving the ute around I have to be super careful because it has no weight and constantly wheel spins. So I'm very careful when turning corners.

Your best bet would be sourcing the parts yourself. But check all 4 wheels don't just look at the one you have bent.

I think your next step should be to do some driver training or get yourself on the skid pans to learn how to control the car in the wet.

These days are great, you will learn a lot from them and how the car behaves in the wet.

Cass: You still can't beat me and my snapped castor rod! :D

Cass: You still can't beat me and my snapped castor rod! :)

That sounds like a challenge to me! What would you say if I suggested puting my old castor rod back on and have another go at it? :D

I'd also suggest doing a advanced driving course of some kind. Not only do you learn things (for example, an R31 wagon with age old shocks and near bald tyres being driven by an 18 year old will stop in a shorter distance than a brand new LandCruiser with ABS being driven by his 55 year old dad, simply because LandCruisers weigh 11ty billion tonnes) but they are alot of fun too! :D

    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
