Gday crew wonderin if by running my gtr in rwd not 4wd will do any damage to any components of the car in particular transfer cases atessa system etc?

I have air in the atessa system at the moment and am changing the clutch soon so wont bleed it till that is over, just want to check that im not doing any harm at the same time.

Your popping the wrong fuse..

Are you popping the one in the car, on the right of the steering wheel?

If you take out the one in the little kicker pannel on the right of the steering wheel, it will disable both ATTESSA and ABS

Try taking out the one from the engine bay.. I havent had any problems with ABS being disabled with that one..

In terms of conflicting stories is that you can't do the same with R33's and R34's GTR's. Thats where it gets blurry.

With R32's its fine. I have run my GTS4 for long periods of time in RWD and have heard many stories of GTR's being run in RWD aswell for long periods of time without any problem.

If you take out the fuse, you make the ATTESSA circut incomplete. If it is incomplete, it will not sence the diffrence in G forces (which is what activates the front wheel torque) and will not engauge the transfer case and hence, front drive shaft, diff and wheels.

GTS4WD is spot on. there is no need to disable ABS to disable the AWD. the reason people do is that they are lazy and just remove the fuse from the in cabin fuse panel. if you remove the AWD fuse from the engine bay all it disables is AWD. ABS is left intact. and no it won't harm your R32 GTR to do it.

Just thought i might add a mention to this..

Rmoving the fuse in the cabin removes power to the attessa/abs ecu, removing the fuse in the engine bay removes power to the attessa pump motor. This also means that you can't just come to a stop and jam the engine bay fuse in, like you can with the cabin fuse, and expect awd to come back.. Engine bay fuse requires a shutdown of the electrical system and firing it up again as you have driven the awd/abs ecu into a fault condition, it needs a reset to go again. (more pertinent to those that have switches rigged up).

Ahh, nope.

Even with a switch rigged into the fuse line in to the attessa ecu (in cab fuse one) you still have to be at a standstill for it to reset, otherwise it will fault.

Another way of faulting the atessa ecu is to turn the electrics off and then back on whilst still moving.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.       My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.

      Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno

      Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.

      BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
