Hey I got an automatic R33, wanna know if anyone has changed their automatic shift knob.

If so what did ya do to the overdrive wire that was connected to the original factory shift knob

and do I need to buy a shift knob with an overdrive button?

Thanks In Advance

Dont know why you would change it unless you are going manualised auto? most ppl who do that go a b&m style ratchet shifter, but that means cutting the console etc to fit it.

as for the overdrive button, just rewire it to a switch or push button and mount it near the shifter somewhere. you can buy addons for some of the b&m shifters that have an overdrive button in them. could be hard to find.

there was also a topic on here somewhere ages ago where someone sourced a different shifter for an auto out of a 300zx or something similar, looks a bit more sporty. kinda similar shape to r34 tiptronic shifters. check ebay maybe?

i got a magic stick in the ceffy, its a non t-piece style auto shifter with the overdrive button. bought it in japan... was like $30 bucks. Haven't seen anything even remotely similar available locally, at least not with the overdrive button and gear release buttons.

There's also the Navan shift knob which is pretty popular with 300ZX drivers. I had one of those and sold it for $150 a couple of years ago. Again with the gear release and overdrive buttons.

unless my job does not involve driving through the CBD

I think I'll stick to my automatic

as I don't want my hands all sore when I get to work at peak hour

I still have fun shifting to neutral when coming to a stop

yes 1 to make it look like I'm driving manual :( and 2 to save some petrol

thanks Basti I'll have a look at that

I found it on the US eBay site (www.ebay.com)

Jet Pilot Auto Shift Knob

I was looking at that last month, but still haven't got a reply from them yet.

I asked if it woud fit our GTT's.

Don't think there gonna reply, let me know if you go ahead with it. i just want to know if it fits.

Yahoo Auctions Search for Auto shifters with overdrive. Contact Laurence to grab one (would be cheaper than buyin the same thing off some leprechaun in the US who imports it from japan to sell on ebay).

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
