+1 for mv... another auto shop had my stag for close to 3 and a half weeks.. couldnt sus the problem properly.. mike had it back to me with in 3 days of it being droped off.. and i even took it to him way b4 i was ment to :) 100% champ... was a little unsure taking it there to begin with.. but he will give u an on the spot $ figure and tell/show you what you got worked on in detail..

I rang MV not long ago and they told me they only do automatic transmissions.

Hence MV Automatics lol

Same, I called them today and they recommended I call "Precision Differentials and Gearbox" on Port Road...

Will call them later, interested to know if they can do it for under a grand... probably not tho..

How hard is it to pull a gbox apart and replace the bits? I don't care if it takes a long time, but if it needs special equipment/experience then I'd have to give it a miss..

I dealt with a Peter Wienert over at Precision Differentials and Gearbox Centre, when I had issues with my N14 SSS; He took my car for a spin around the block, and he said it didn't seem quite right. I had my mechanic rip out and send over the 'box to rip open and have a looksee inside and figure out if it was cheaper to fix or replace.

Turned out that it was too busted to fix, and I ended up picking up another box - but - these guys did the open up and check out for free for me, which I was blown away by. They seemed totally professional to me. :D

Give Rowell & Searle in Pulteney St a call.

They took a look at my gearbox when it shat itself, offered to rebuild it but suggested I look at the cost of a replacement, being RB20 gear it was cheaper to go that way.

I've been to rowell and searle before when I needed work done on my 31's auto. IIRC they don't do manuals? Can someone confirm this? Either way, I was very happy with the work done. They did a good job

Im terms of a bigger and better gearbox i rang up Horsepowerinabox today, and PPGearbox's do a 1st to 4th set up for around 5700.. And thats just the shafts etc... Thats the cheapest one they have but its guaranteed to be 500% better/stronger then the original box. But thats not including labour to build it and put it all back together.. So im rather confused on what to do now lol. Use my standard box rebuild it and if i do put more power in to it risk having it go again, Or go to the point were im spending 7 grand or so on a box lol.

Your best bet (imho) for anything serious is for you to buy a shagged box which already requires a rebuild and buy the OS Giken 5 speed kit. And get someone reputable to do it (Rowell & Searle, Precision Gearbox & Diff). Labour is never going to be cheap, and if you're rebuilding with good stuff, it'll definately cost you... that said, in 4-5 weeks I'll be removing my current box to fit a replacement, so if you wanna grab a box needing a rebuild, send me a message

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
