Hey guys, i bought a GTR BOV a while back and it seems that the spring was alot softer than the stock blow off valve... just wondering if this is normal??

i put it on my car and ofcourse it leaked.. but why ? i never thought springs could get that soft?

anyone know or have one that can explain this?

I don't remember mine being soft enough to press with relative ease to be honest.

Been 4 years now but i remember i couldnt press with my thumb, then i didnt try super hard but medium pressure didn't budge

Is the VAC line connected and not leaking?

ok sweet, because i can press it in easier than i can the stock gtst valve and i thought that was weired.. and it is open at idol but as long as your saying this is normal? and it will seal when there is boost and not leak?

and does this mean my engine has good vacume??

cheers guys, i know im a noob but i know bov's arent sposed to leak :D

the VAC line is connected properly and not leaking.. but mine is soft enough to press in with relative ease.. easier than stock gtst valve anyway.

Mine is soft and works fine....

plumped back or not?

are you trying to vent to atmo or plumb back?

i dont have it plumped back at the moment.. should i plum it back??

They are quite soft by design as they are intended to be used as plumbed-back.

On an engine with good vacuum, they will be open at idle and cruise.

cheers

Does this mean i have to have it plumed back? or will it still work fine vented to atmo?

ok will do :)

i still dont quite understand however why it cant be run vented to atmo if it still leaks at idle when plumbed back anyway? no matter what your still loosing air..? as long as the valve is sealed when on boost why should it matter if its plumbed back or not?

confusing...

thanks anyways guys :D

Lightly leaking at idle doesn't affect the factory setup as its "leaking" back through the BOV return and being ingested after the AFM, before the turbo. As such, it doesnt get measure twice, nor get "lost" to atmo.

My old GTR BOV's are very soft. The design in principle is to soften or smoothen the boost / vacuum transition i would imagine.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
