just wondering where the best place is to get a r34gtt power fc. is it best to get one with a hand controller or is it not neccesary. do all power fc's allow removal of the airflow metre or does a specific one have to be purchased. im not to sure about putting $1500 or so through ebay so im looking for else where.

Hey dmonic1, might be worth doing a search for Power-FC info as there is heaps and heaps of threads relating to them. Primarily thou the standard type PFCs use the cars stock AFM, its only a couple of the higher end units like the d-jetro ones that don't. With this sort of thing people are selling them off all the time as you can get pretty good money for them resale, as aposed to other car parts. You can usually pick one up for a few hundred bucks cheaper than new one. The Hand controller is used for tuning the car and in my experience if you using it as a daily driver type car you won't be changing the settings over, the PFC doesn't have multimaps or anything like that so u can't simple switch between Race and Street settings you need to manually change lots of things to get a different result. So really the hand controller is just used as a guage for a few different things like water temp and such. With regards to getting it tuned if you are going to a reputable performance type place they will more than likely hook their laptop upto the FC anyway so the hand controller is probably not needed in that regard.

Have you got an auto? If so have a read through the threads for raesons why you won't want a power fc

If you still want one here is one for NZ$2300 (Soichi is a top Japanese tuner working in Auckland) there are other, cheaper ones on Trade Me.

My 20 cents;

1. You can use pretty much any decent Nissan AFM with any Power FC, just select the appropriate one from the menu. I have seen over 1100 bhp through AFM's so using them is hardly a power constraint.

2. I use the Commander for all sorts of things, a few examples. I can turn the boost down, or up, if I want, in a few seconds. This is useful for track days, inexperienced drivers, a night at the drags etc. I can retard the ignition timing any number of degrees, this is usefull if I get stuck having to use sub standard petrol in an emergency. I can increase the idle speed on a hot day in traffic to make the air con cooler. Or to circulate the water faster if the temp is creeeping up. All of the engine sensor outputs are shown live on the Commander, using it as a diagnostic tool it is a simple process to find one that may be faulty. I can check injector duration, engine knock levels, AFM voltage etc etc. For tuning a lap top is definitely the go, but once you learn to use it, a Commander is a very useful tool in its own right.

I don't disagree that the hand controller is totally worth having even if you don't plan to muck around with it but im saying its not totally necessary.

I am in the process of trying to buy one and everytime one comes up it slips through my fingers...

Luckily for me i have an RWD so it will be a plug and play with out wirring issues as i actually have traction control. yes i have an auto but it will very soon be shift kitted and if that fails i wont have any problem putting a manual trans in there due to only having a RWD in the first place. the ebay price is about $1500 new with a hand controller. does that sound about right.

$1500 is reasonably pricy if i was you id acutally contact a quality installer in your area and ask them what the price is of supply, install and tune. You may find that its not more expensive as they will make there money on the install not the equipment.

r34 gtt PFC is out of production so 1500 is about right for market price. you should check my other thread for issues around vin#s, build dates and ECU versions - if yours is S2 I think you might have challenges. Only the early model s1 fit straight into r34 gtt PowerFC

hi duncan

actually dmonics car might be the only real bolt in powerfc for a stagea.

his is rear wheel drive with TC.

so almost certainly it will bolt in and run it like on other S2's BUT the engine check light fault from TC won't be an issue (like on the 4wd stageas).

i finally fitted some splitfires and boy what a difference it makes to not have a car spitting everywhere. i just picked up a second hand pfc with a hand controller for $850 on ebay. now just have to sit and wait. my turbo will be ready on tuesday from ATS. Bill is building me a highflowed dash 12 gt3076 for $2300 and my front mount from cooling pro should arrive by the end of the week. then all i need is a weekend to fit it all and get it tuned. my main aim is to have it looking stealth under the bonnet so i reckon all i will do from here is a set of cams to lower the compression a little bit and that will be it. i will probably just run 10 to 12 psi for a while until i can afford some injectors. any idea what sort of power i can achieve with the stock injectors. i would like to get eventually in the area of atleast 250 but would like about 280rwkw. should make for a fun RWD stagea. will post up some pics of the turbo when i pick it up.

    • After @Kinkstaah debacle, I'd never want to try and get it right 😛
    • The hood lines up with the fenders. The front bar doesn't perfectly line up with the fenders where the wheel arch is. You have to 'squeeze' the front bar 'in' as it wants to naturally flare out and be longer on the sides. There's a few threads where people notice this when they only swap a GTR style bumper and front bar. Unless you have genuine OEM items - you may be better served getting conversion kits. There are GTT bumpers to fit GTR hoods. There are GTR hoods (non genuine) to fit the GTT bracketry. MAY  
    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛
