Ok Ladies/gents,

Quick update as requested.

Traveling 400km a week sets me back approx $45.

LPG has been in the Stagea for about 8 Months with out any dramas what so ever.

I do run on petrol each day, generaly whilst the timer is running after the 45-60 min trip to work, Also 20mins a week on the M4.

Performance side of things runs almost the same as petrol, 0-20km is slightly less but if your just crusing of the lights you cant notice.

Normal driving 60km-110km its great, pulls nicely.

Cheers

Surly the stagea doesn't use that much fuel that you have to get them converted to gas or am i missing something.

The reason i ask is i am looking at getting one (all going well) and all this talk of converting them to gas is getting me worrried

you have to remember that the stagea is a performance wagon.personally i dont think the economy is excessive.if you want economy buy a barina etc.i have a gas falcoon yooooot and is heaps cheaper to run than the petrol version.

not to try to take anything from you - it sounds like you have a great result there...

but my average is also around 400km a week, and on my current fuel economy (12L/100km) that costs me ~$60-65 on average. My car is petrol only and this is for bp ultimate 98 fuel. I've thought of converting to dual fuel sometime but I'd need the difference to be much more than $15 a week to make it worthwhile.

It would depend on the type of traffic you drive in though, so if I were driving the same route as you I may well be using much more fuel.

mike40sydney - yes the stagea is a performance wagon, but I still feel that you can have both performance AND efficiency. With my last stagea I managed to increase the power by 40kw and lower my fuel economy by 2L/100km at the same time - through mods. Without mods, my current M35 is just as efficient as what my last one was with mods - and at ~12L/100km I think this is very similar to ford and holden wagons of the same year - and much better than other wagons with the same performance.

However that said, it is easy to use a lot of fuel in a turbo car - it requires a lot of self-control to keep the costs down and only hit boost occasionally. :bunny:

good luck changing the oil filter.

I too had that problem on my R34 sedan, after changing the filter twice from below (up between the block and suspension) I decided a remote oil filter was worth every penny. I boot mounted the battery, mounted catch can, oil filter and now have room for a 2nd convertor all with in the battery spot for when my new custom gas fuel rails are made up.

P.s i have since learnt that 200RWKW is the max for 6 injectors WITH STANDARD PRINS FUEL RAILS. the rail is the limiting factor.

my gas setup paid for it self very quickly, although i do have a very heavy right foot.

regards

Chris

FWIW, we have one V6 Adventra fleet car at work which averages 17L/100. Bear this in mind when you look at the consumption of our Japanese 1700kg AWD wagons...

(We're all chasing more power & economy, but ~12L/100 starts to look pretty good when compared with the Holden!)

My fuel economy in my Series 2 Dedicated Gas Stagea

Fuel Economy: City 17.8 litres/100 (330 km range). Highway 14.8 litres/100 (400 km range)

Cost per tankful $30.00 based on $50c/litre in VIC at the moment.

Based on price of LPG 2 weeks ago, it was costing $21.00 per tankful based on $35c/litre.

Heres a link to my thread with more details.

Yes it is a tight squeeze to change the oil filter but have done it many times now and is do able in the factory location depending where, and how big your converter is.

45,000 trouble free klms thus far, paid back the system many times over already.

Most of the other people who have converted over and found a good tuner will tell you the same thing. I haven't come across anybody who has done it and has regretted their decision with these Skyline motors.

    • When you crank your car, and hit it with a timing light, can you see a steady crank timing?
    • Oh, forgot to add, A few months ago I was getting mixture codes and the car was using crap loads of fuel. You could smell the unburned fuel in the exhaust, it was crazy strong. Economy was over 17.5 l/100 and usually around 19. I smoked the engine and found a leaky CCV hose which I replaced and then I replaced my two pre cat O2 sensors, I also replaced the MAF. This fixed my mixture codes and improved my exonomy but I'm still 14 - 15 l/100 when pottering about town so something is still amiss. Throttle response is much better and it has more pep but I'd like to know why it's still so thirsty (and I'm hoping that whatever it is gives me a bit more poke).

    • Hello all, currently finishing up a rb25 swap into my s14. Having issues with starting, car has spark (confirmed by pulling a plug and watching it spark), has fuel(confirmed by checking pulse/voltage at injectors all spark plugs are soaked in fuel). Car cranks over and pops into the exhaust with a heavy fuel smell but no attempt to start or run, I have torn the timing cover off and triple confirmed timing, turned the CAS in multiple spots both directions, attempted to start with coolant temp and maf unplugged, checked my fuel lines and made sure they weren’t backwards, checked voltage at cas/injectors/coilpacks, made sure all the grounds in the harness are connected and added a few grounding straps (1 from chassis to block, 1 from chassis to head, and 1 from chassis to igniter chip) I am getting stumped here. As a last ditch effort I made a full grounding harness tonight that’s going to run from the battery and add an extra ground from the battery onto the coil pack harness/igniter chip/ intake manifold/ Wiring specialties harness ground/ and alternator. I’m hoping maybe the grounding harness will fix it here but posting here to see if anyone has any other ideas on what else I can check. My fuel pressure is unknown right gauge will be here tomorrow.  IMG_3206.mov
