Hi brake guru's,

Just bought some ex-DJR AP 6 spots for our car and got 4 sets of 375mm rotors and pads. We want to fit them to our circuit car and we need some advice. Will we have any bias problems? will we need master cylinder upgrade? Will we need to upgrade rears as well (rears are R33 GTR Brembo's)

We also need hats made up or bought as well as dogbones.

any help is much appreciated

speak to the guys at racebrakes sydney (02) 9609 1101

They can do the hats and dogbones, can advise on the master cylinder (will probably be OK but I don't know the piston diameters in the calipers to be sure). And best of all they know what they are talking about.

Thanks Duncan, apparantly there is a mob in SA that can do the hats too. Will measure piston diameters tomm. and post up some pics too.

got all this gear for the tiny sum of $2500

I'd recommend getting some rears too.

None in the parts bin at DJR???

Are they enduro calipers?

What thickness is the rotor??

Dick said we couldn't have the rears as he was still using them. They are the "lightweight" caliper, the rotors ill need to measure tomm. but definately 375mm fishook style. I think they are 35mm

similar to whats shown here...

Hey Paul Race brakes are good, but.... they send all their stuff to specialized brake and clutch (gav sport) at st marys anyway..

i got my hats and rotors made up at race brakes, but they were just sent out to st marys to get made.

not sure if this will help u but my cus put me onto this site that is selling all the stuff from the old wps team the site is www.v8clearancesale.com they have pad sets for like 20 bucks and rotors. they might have sum rear callipers.

ksport brake kit start 4 piston calpier and go up to 12piston rotors start at 286 mm and go up to 410mm see link for more details

K-sports a great brand bang for buck but for genuine AP's that are race proven...i kno id go for AP's...particularly when its genuinely a track car.

Yup told you on the phone Paul to contact Kevin at Specialised Brake And Clutch (yup now in Penrith). Pretty much any brake package you see for Holden/Ford/Mitsubishi performance cars in any magazine or any workshop had something to do with SBC/GavSport.

Do your rotors happen to look anything like these?

    • But seriously, can we ask for the results of the "tip a bottle of metho into a nearly empty tank" experiment?
    • Hang on. Let me get this straight. The desire is to have coilovers, BC in particular, to be MORE comfortable on Sydney roads than stock suspension? Well, that's obviously not right. BCs have crude damping design at the very best, and typically hard spring rates. BC stands for Billy Cart. And then, the desire is to put in some shitty old worn out stockers, to get it blue slipped and then put the BCs back in? And then.....what? Not worry about getting pulled up by the Plod? Because you seem to have raised a worry about paying for engineering (which actually does solve all your legality problems) and still getting pulled up.... but the only problem there is that if/when that happens you have to show your paperwork at the inspection station. Whereas, if you just swap in borrowed shitty old stockers to get it slipped now, and then you get defected in the future, you have to go find more shitty old stockers then too. You course of action looks like this set of options: Buy brand new stock type dampers, and springs. probably cost a bit more than $1k all up, but will last for the remaining life of the car. Put them in, pass inspection, drive on them forever more. Hell, they could even be really nice Bilsteins and Kings or other lower&stiffer springs if you wanted. Get the car engineered as is. ~$1k. Buy new Shockworks coilvers (or MCA) and also pay for engineering. You're spending a lot more here. But these will be the best things that you could drive around on.
    • Might be worthwhile hitting up Facebook's groups, I know most of them contain terrible people and scammers - however you might be able to find someone that's in Sydney with factory suspension you could purchase and/or hire. Just do not send any form of money anywhere, in person cash only.
    • Thanks @Duncan Ride height is fine. I think it's almost stock tbh. Happy to share a pic. I don't actually have a regular mechanic as haven't lived in Sydney too long. Could you or anyone recommend any shops in Sydney?
