Not Being Out To Find 98 Octane Fuel.

Seems to me that there are some tight arses on here that want to save a couple of dollars everytime they fill up instead of spending the couple of dollars and preventing the massive bill of 5 grand plus to rebuild their engines.

Japanese fuel has higher octane ratings than we have here so the least you should be putting into your cars are 98. If you cant afford the fuel you shouldnt have bought the car.

ive used 95 octane once and instantly felt the difference, never went back to 95, always use 98 and it is literally only a couple of dollars extra for the whole tank to be on 98 instead of 95 so ive always used the 98 since..... i doubt one tank of 95 will do any damage at all, and they are set to run at 95 minimum, not 98 but nissan recommends 98 or higher, but 95 is acceptable..... but up to you if you wanna risk saving a total of $100 ish in fuel costs only to have to rebuild an engine.....

i'm a tight ass so i choose to spend the extra $100 a year on decent fuel

You noticed a difference between 95 and 98 because it would have been pinging and the ecu would have pulled timing and possibly dumped a little fuel in.

100% and I mean 100% stock car and 95ron is fine.

Drop an exhaust on it and you need 98 otherwise it will be pinging.

When i was running stock boost i ran 95 and its fine!!!!! Now that its been tuned for 98 i only run 98 (remap ecu) but the other day my mrs fillied it up with 95 :P The ecu automatically pulled a heap of timing and it was fine (still went well). Just used it all up and filled it back with 98 and all good. Cant comment on a power fc though.

Just a pitty the ECU stops listening to the det sensors past ~5000rpm. So no protection and BANG there goes a ring land. :P

The PFC. There's no ign retard but the dash light flashes at you letting you know some things up. Then you trim out a few degree's and your fine until the next batch of fuel.

When I was pushing the stock turbo near its limits I found 95ron I had to pull out ~5degree's. 91-92ron was 8-9degree's. So way too much.

Std ecu, stock boost, stock exhaust 95 ron was ok. 2degree's advance had it pinging. 98ron I was able to push in 5degree's and with everything stock it picked up a healthy 10rwkw which is not too bad considering its just a turn of the crank angle sensor. :D

When pouring Octane Boost or Toluene to raise RON, it's best to wear a latex glove, so that none of it gets on your skin.

$2 shops have them pretty cheap.

They're carcinogenic and it absorbs through the pores.

(Sure a charred steak is also carcinogenic but some toxins are riskier than others).

Tez (also a pharmacist) :)

    • Haven't updated this is a while. -5 speed conversion is done. Then center console, parking brake handle, and mounting bracket can be adapted from a R34 since the S2 parts are all disco. Console is a slightly different grain pattern and color but works fine. R33/ R34 GTS (no booster) clutch pedal works as well as the matching master cylinder. Wiring is simple, jump the starter connector at the fuse box, note which wires are connected at which position on the auto neutral safety switch and cut off the switch harness and connect to the corresponding switch on the 5 speed. -Rear R34 rear subframe swap is completed. Full Nismo arm set, 2-way LSD set up soft, 322mm Brembo brakes, Ohlins Flag-R coil overs (need to drop the spring rate 1Kg) -RB swap is under way. HKS Step 2 High Response 2.8 BCD stroker kit / Step 2 V-Cam / GTIII 4R Kit I may not use the 4R kit but not sure yet as I've seen some pretty decent dyno sheets on it and it doesn't spool as slow as people think when you have v-cam. I have the wiring manual for the car and a spare 260RS harness so the wiring shouldn't be that bad but I just haven't had the time to invest in it. If anyone has a suggestion for someone who can handle it let me know! I have a bunch of spare 5mt swap parts and some Nismo 580 turbos if anyone needs/wants them hit me up. Located in California but willing to ship. As always, thanks to all the members who have answered my questions and helped this project keep moving!
    • Did Car Inspect get back to you? How bad was the actual "structural" damage? What front surgery was required?
    • I would be, however the last PS I owned was a PS1 and the last GT I played was GT1 lol. Also, how do you dads even have time to do anything? I barely have time to even sleep 7 hours a night!
    • I was thinking of setting up a multiplayer comp. Just a series that anybody could join and we could run a table here.  Anybody interested in that?
    • Thanks - to be sure will the WHC34 work?  I can’t find the other one anywhere.  Thanks
