TT run under AASA, TW run under CAMS, totally seperate ruling bodies.

And this is the dumb thing - and the "fall out" I was talking about. It seems the gap between the 2 ruling parties is getting wider and wider and it's obviously becoming a case of needing 2 seperate cars almost for both sets of regs - or else making competitors choose which events they are going to run. CAMS ones or AASA ones.

But with the major Eastern rallies running under AASA I see that ruling on Tony (not so much the one on Klark as a 2.2L is banned under both sets of regs) will mean they will struggle to get competitors from over East to the event in future years that have built cars specifically to AASA rules.

Anyways.... that's all be covered before and I'm sure will be again.

I was havin a bit of a think about the Quinny situation last night, and it dawned on me that the VIP team would have been under intense scrutiny over the event.

No one can tell me that there isn't a whole bunch more stroked Evo's competing in that event. I went through the pics on the site yesterday and could see other cars that have known cheat-spec engines.

That doesn't change the fact that the cars were illegal.

Many of you won't know the details of a run-in that Quinn had with CAMS relatively recently. I'll try and make it brief and succinct. Given the goings on I reckon the war against Quinn is fairly personal for CAMS, and I'd be suprised if Quinn enters any CAMS events after this. lol

Quinn had entered a car in a circuit event and apparently had requested some elligibilty info from CAMS. CAMS supplied the info verbally and Quinn's team built the car to that spec.

The car arrived at the event and raced, did well.

The car was post-event scrutineered and excluded from the results based purely on the incorrect information supplied verbally. Apparently no debate would be entered into.

From memory this is when a $5000- fine was handed to Quinn. The fine was paid at QR racetrack office, and delivered in a few buckets of coins and tipped on the office floor. CAMS states that fines cannot be paid in this manour, but apparently a technicality of how the clerk answered a particular question allowed the instant dumping of 80 kg of loose change on the floor as payment. lolololol. Now you can start to see the shit-fight beginning.

Quinn must have got a massive bee in his bonnet about the fine/exclusion, and decided a little cheeky signwriting was required for a televised event, based on what Top Gear did with the BMW endurance racer.

A business name of 'Stewards Socks" was registered, and a few boxes of socks were made and embroidered as Stewards Socks.

The car was signwritten with a large CAMS sticker, with the Stewards Socks right beside it. The top of the "o" and the "s" were a different colour to the rest of the signwriting.

For all intents and purposes the signwritten vehicle read "CAMS Stewards Suck", which obviously got a fair bit of CAMS attention. CAMS apparently demanded to see the registered business papers and product, all of which was well in hand prior to the event. Quinny gave a pair of Stewards Socks to each attending high ranking CAMS official at the meeting at Stewards Socks warehouse (also known as VIP Petfoods lunch room).

So regardless of anything, Quinny has still got a sense of humour!

I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall there! :laugh:

I was in tears when Quinny told that story at RT earlier this year, what a tripper!!!

Anyone care to shed light on the restricted speed limit/zones in Targa West? Was talkin to me old mate Ben Searcy last night and he said he got a 5 min penalty cos they did the 1km restricted zone in less than a minute?? (45secs to be exact) How the fark does that all work? Seems rediculous to me.

I know its about keeping the average speed down to satisfy CAMS, but seems to me like too many variables and you only stand to lose time, particularly if you don't have a GTR that can do warp factor 9.

The thing that gets me is that it was known BEFORE the event even started that the stewards were going to exclude them apparently. I think it's just wrong that they let the guys risk their lives and assets to compete knowing full well they were going to exclude them at the end anyways.

And Timmay, RSZ have been used before, even at Targa Tas, but they comprehensively suck balls. I'd much rather a kilometre full of chicanes if they need to slow the average speed down.

Interesting about Quinn Jr, puts a bit of the question mark over other LWR cars.

And how do you weave LWR into it Ben. The KQ car was converted from VIII to IX by TMR and is owned by the VIP Racing. What the hell does that have to do with LWR?

as far as i knew LWR built and prepared the VIP evo's. At Rally Tas LWR was even looking after the R35. I just looked up some photo's from this years event and saw the TMR stickers on the car. For the record I have nothing against Les or his team (as i know there are some people that do), if i knew TMR built the car, I would have said TMR.

In Ben's defence, there were many thinking that it was a LWR prepped car, given they have serviced the VIP cars recently.

One of those rare occasions where brand recall is not a good thing :)

Greg you were pretty clear just after targa that you thought none of the top cars were cheating (back in this thread somewhere).

Do you think the Quinns were a one off or a sign of a more broad issue?

    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful

    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
