i recently got epa'd so im taking the 3 and a half inch exhaust off and putting the standard one back on but while i was at the workshop asking if i could borrow a standard item i saw a 2 and a half inch exhaust that looked a bit more restrictive but at the same time it looked alot more quite and i should be able to use that and not be bothered by the epa anymore but now my question im fairly sure ill lose power but how much

my car is fairly stock pod filter exhaust boost controller and i have an intercooler about to be installed i always thought the 3 and a half was too big for the amount of mods i had but i always thought less restriction more power ....i would like to hear your thoughts was the original exhaust too big for the amount of mods i have, will i be better off with the 2 and a half

thanks

i had the 3 and a half inch exhaust tested before i took it off 98- to 101 decibels obviously not legal so the guy i go to had a kakimoto exhaust 2 and a half inch it made a huge difference 86 decibels at 4800 rpms and i still have a 3 and a half inch front pipe i didnt think it'd be able to pass with the front pipe

    • I also used Knox driveshafts when I the slip yoke T56 to the 3bolted TR6060 type. I believe I was one of his first jobs as it literally changed hands when I was there, started by the old owner and finished by the new. Everyone seemed pretty great about it. So wasn't shy/seemed pretty knowledgeable when dealing with weird custom people like me.
    • Just a reminder orange park was cool back in the day   and drifting the main circuit was even cooler   f**k I miss that car
    • We used Knox Drive shafts years ago when we were doing gravel rally, good guy but I heard it had changed hands? He's got a lot of stuff and is miles cheaper than GJ and so on. He used to have a lathe setup with a MIG torch on the tool holder so he could get the uni welds just right, quite a clever guy. I just got a driveshaft done for my sequential installation and that was through Balancing Services Australia in Preston, they did the Gibson cars in the old days. New genuine CV's, billet yoke, new centre bearing and chome moly shaft was $2k.
    • Thanks for sharing that mate, I've got a couple of spares on the shelf but all the unis are tight....will give old mate a shout. BTW are you sure it wasn't just a $400 paint job? Any detail of what they replaced (cut/reweld?)
    • Yeah I saw that about the US Q50 recently, apparently it was shown to Inifiniti dealers (probably to help with their depression about the cars they can sell). Seemed like a really obvious step to me, the platforms are very similar in many ways. Even if there aren't many people who actually put the money up it should really help with image/reputation. What hasn't been clear anywhere if that is a V38 model of if they are just going to add the trans as an option in a new model year. What they did with the Z from 370z to "Z" is just weird so I'd be surprised if they released this as a V38. Great news for me to have an option; it is far from confirmed that I can get any decent track sessions through the auto so having a manual I can swap to is great.
