Greg
I'm thinking of replacing the intake pipe with just a single straight pipe. Has anyone does this? My only concern about doing it is loss of power...will i lose low down and midrange power? also noise, how loud will it be? thanks greg Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23020-ramifications-of-new-intake-pipe/ Share on other sites
NA_R33
hey dude, i was going to do it with a big stainless steal one, while ur at it u should put the pod in the front bar and then uve got proper cold air, u shouldnt loose ne power as long as u stick with the same or slightly larger diameter piping. skyla
A guy I know in SDU has had this done, he hasn't lost any power, if anything I think he has gained a few kw, and he has a bit more induction noise. His car is basicaly stock, just with a pod and no cold air intake, he is running mid to high 15's for the 1/4. nismoman18
u mean getting a pipe without that plastic oil catch can attached to it ? i was thinking of gettin a seperate catch can and mild steel pipe however meh too much money Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23020-ramifications-of-new-intake-pipe/#findComment-493782 Share on other sites
NA_R33
is that what that thing is hanging off the side of the intake pipe?? i couldnt for the life of me work it out and neither could my dad or the exaust dude..... sweet as now i know. nismoman18
yeah it confused me for a while man, the really dumb thing is that if the butterfly valve spring goes bust u get oil vapours in ur intake and that causes detonation! Nismodified
if your get the intake pipe to be the same diameter as the stock one, there shouldnt really be any ramifications at all. I didnt know what the thing off teh side of teh intake was either :-? gaining or losing power would be from the result of changing the size of the diameter of the pipe. If the pipes are cheap and easy t make, maybe consider making 2 or 3 in different sizes and determine if you can feel any difference's. eryc
i thought the black box off to the side of intake was a resonator box to quieten down the intake noise there is no hose off the engine for this to be a oil catch can , the hose off the back goes to your intake manifold collector. you could replace it WITH A ALUMINIUM OR STAINLESS one but your induction noise would be louder ,actually sounds quit good the one i heard eryc Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23020-ramifications-of-new-intake-pipe/#findComment-495168 Share on other sites
Nismodified
Yeh it would be a louder induction noise. What was the downside to that, i think i missed something Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23020-ramifications-of-new-intake-pipe/#findComment-495180 Share on other sites
eryc
no down side i liked it sounded good he used a one piece aluminium one for a comadore and cut it into 4 parts and joined it back together(so all the bends suited the skyline) with silicon joiners so it would fit into his cold air box he made with pod filter i think the pipe and filter cost $190.00 at auto shop (not the best pod filter ive seen just a cheapie) but he had a good filter already he had to get a pipe welded on it for the hose wich goes to the intake manifold collector cost $15.00 3x silicone conectors about $10 or $15 dollars each Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/23020-ramifications-of-new-intake-pipe/#findComment-495239 Share on other sites
Nismodified
do u think you could get us some pics? if the prep work is easy enough, this could be something i could knock up without too much fuss. ive got a very similar set up to the one u described as well.
