Hey i just want some info on this conversion as ive heard mixed arguments.

I have been told you can fit a Z32 AFM to a gtst to eliminate its boost cut. now i have been told this can also be done without tuning the ecu. just a matter of wiring it in.

the directions for wiring it in are this:

• wiring for Z32 Maf into GTS-T

Z32 terminals are lettered A Thru to F, total of six terminals of which 5 are used on the Z32 and 4 on the GTS-t.

Working from A upwards as follows:

A: do not use

B: connect to Black wire on GTS-T MAF loom

C: connect to black/silver

D: connect to white

E: connect to black with white tracer

F: do not use.

Can this be done with standard computer without tuning ecu?

Has anyone tried it?

Hmm, well when I put on my Z32 I tried to run it without changing the setting in my ecu - idled like shit. Probably becuase the afm delivers different voltage for the same airflow.

As the voltage is different, say at 3000rpm and 50% load, the ecu is only recieving a signal that used to be associated 2500rpm @ 30% load, there fore your car will run very lean.

As far as I know, boost cut works on boost pressure, not air flow?

well the really wierd thing is that with std turbo i was running 1.1bar. with the 2530 it cuts out at 1bar. either its just creeping over 1.1bar and thats cut out or its just sending alot more air. i dunno.

I was going to get a fuel cut defender today but after reading the latest zoom article i think i want to steer away from the SAFCII and fuel cut defender. there is a great article on "sensor benders" the main problem is that by lowering afm signals the ecu will automatically advance ignition timing - and running high boost with highly advanced timing is looking for detonation.

so with a tuned ecu i can get bothe a/f ratios and ignition maps tuned correctly.

i figure as im aiming for 300rwhp its probably a safer move....

Cheapest thing to do is if your ECU is running the engine ok (std ECU right) with the exception of the boost cut, then plug my old ECU in and see.

If we swap std computer then im happy, i just want something that will run my car if i ever return it to stock, dont car if all the factory cuts are on it.

And i dont think the boost cut is related to the AFM being maxed out. There is a preset signal that when reached, will trigger the boost cut, but may be well before the AFM maxes out, i dont know... go to work with a willing passenger and a multi-meter.

I haven't read that article but it sounds like a crock. The S-AFC will see a lower air flow and send less fuel through. How does it know to advance the timing? It thinks the car has less air going into it, and that's all. On my PowerFC, the ignition advances as revs (and therefore airflow) increase. If anything I would say it's not advancing the ignition enough!

Whatever the case, the tuner should be able to tune the S-AFC without any detonation. I haven't heard of a single person that had detonation issues after getting their S-AFC properly tuned. I think the guy that wrote the Zoom article doesn't know what he's on about. Did he mention any alternatives maybe? Like some Aussie built ECU replacements? Sponsorship potentially at work here.

You have an R32, forget the S-AFC anyway and just get your ECU remapped. Should cost around $600 or less.

If you have an R32, just get it remapped - cheaper than an SAFC.

I know a guy who ran a fuel cut defender on an RB20 cefiro, ran 1.3bar, and in that trim it was driven hard for 2 years without a problem, so I have trouble believing what is being said about fuel cut defenders.

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.  
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
