It's been proven that women prefer the word 'processes' and NOT 'tactics'

These company execs learn to hand out a questionnaire that has a lot of seemingly innocuous Qs including one to make a point!

Dr Phil plays with his dog when he gets home. Your anger will dissipate quicker that way...

Cheers, Tez

lol women arent a whole and can't be regarded that way.. i think you mean MOST women..

so which one of your seemingly "innocuous questions" that you was posting in the forums was the question you was trying to get a real response :)

dr phil is a loser.. spills crap he's read from books..

and no i'm not getting into this domestic.. every1 has given good points for haggling.. either ones will work.. its not a matter of shit negotiators.. different tactics work.. and it's as terry and others have pointed out.. the dealer wants a sale.. which tactic you use may let the dealer know how serious you are.. if you back off to much or do the it's my way or no way, you can miss the deal... if its a good price then others will be looking too.. if many people are looking the dealer won't just drop the price

and Terry made a good point in his last post about the end of month "trigger happy" as long as the sales figures are reached.. also if they are too low also as they will be wanting to increase as much as possible and will want any sale

anyway gl with it.. and let round 1 begin 'ding ding' FIGHT lol :)

Hmmm interesting thread, just going through buying a 4wd myself lately and am having fun haggling 'negotiating' whatever you like to call it.

We dont need to start a "who has the biggest d*ck" complex as to who knows the most recent sales tactics and processes, but i do agree with a lot of what has been said, little tactics that the car yards will use to get your eyes of rust etc, open ended ie lead in questions to build familiarity with a prospect/lead all good tricks of the trade.

One thing I am noticing however is that a lot of the car salesman are quite second rate at the sales processes, obviously what has happened is that the old hat salesman have now been promoted as sales/yard managers etc and when looking for a used car it seems the newbies are always in the used car sections. They to tend to make some silly mistakes being so new when it comes to negotiations.

Generally I am finding that i can quite easily talk down 10% of asking price down to say 20% (this may differ state to state) keep in mind these people obviously MUST make money and need to beleive that you have the money to offer.

What I have noticed is that Its all about who has 'ownership' of the deal ie who has the upperhand. Originally when trying to figure out a ballpark figure as to how much i could offer 5 different salesmen where saying "well you can put it in a formal offer and see if the sales manager will accept it' obviously they are wanting COMMITMENT therefore they have 'ownership'

I train people in DISC personality profiling (dont know what it is.... google it! , basically a form of profiling personality to create the upperhand in sales) so i look for 'I' style (extraverts) salesmen (about 50% of em!) and revert to a normal Bali style haggle, something like this.

"Before I sign anything I want to know if I am in the right ball park figure, I have $12,000 ready to go, here is my phone number, unfortunately I am looking for a car very soon so if at all could you speak to your sales manager by the end of the day/week otherwise I will have a new car"..... then leave.

This works on 2 emotional senses:

Creating Urgency - He has until the end of the day/week to accept your offer or he misses out on whatever commison he/she could have gotten

Ownership - you now 'own' the deal as you are on top as he has to now bend to your rules as he has a call to urgency.

the most important thing is..... your verbal (at this point non legally binding... well kinda ;-) ) offer MUST be realistic, dont expect a call of any sort if it is not realistic, also I am reading above of salesmen dropping their pants on the spot 6 - 7k, in my eyes this is nothing to be bragging about, i would rather be thinking ' what might be wrong with this car for the seller to be dropping his pants by that amount so quickly.

Phew that was a lot to write but i hope i helped at least a little :-) Take it or leave it really :-)

LOL we copped this from a kitchen salesman last night, I only had til 10:00am today to accept his unreasonable offer on a kitchen to receive a free bonus sink!!! Oh noes!!!

He didn't like it when I said "hmm so you're saying I should take the deal you're offering and score a free $200 sink and rush into a $20K mistake?"

I react very poorly to imposed time constraints by salespeople, expecially when they're rude and walk in expecting they've made the sale already...the attitude of him throwing his samples and laptop into his bag and literally running out the door was enough reassurance for me refusing his bullshit offer....I loved the fact he was trying to tell me it's end of month so I better accept any offer going, er no you're the person that needs to make the sale, dickhead.

My wife made me laugh when she said "did he literally just turn into a complete flamin mongrel in front of us?"

Yes he did!

monday mornings and sunday arvos are always a good time to go ( i mean real late sunday arvo like 10 minutes before closing time) saturdays are there busiest days so they generally sell more on that particular day so they are not as interested as on an early monday mornig ie first nice sale od the day/week sort of thing

Hey guys, I went there and the two cars I was interested blew huge amounts of smoke. Not sure If it was just because they had been sitting ourside for a while, but it sort of turned me off

I think it might be best to buy from private seller.

Ah well...

Congrats on not being fleeced!

At least, you've got enough info from your brains trust at SAU to steer ya in the right direction eh?

Best of luck in your search...

When I sold my R33, the buyer said it was the 13th car he'd looked at.

Tez :(

So I walked into this dealers yard 11999 on the window. I said what's your lowest on this thing? He says make me an offer.

Ok 9k I said. His jaw dropped and said no I cant go that low. I said thats fine thats my target budget range and I just saw one the same for that money down the road. He says I bet It had more K's on it than this one. I said yes but only about 8,000k more and it has a body kit. thanx for your time. 3 weeks later the car was still there so I sent a mate in with $8500 and the sale was made.

talk like you own the place, talk with money, talk like you have seen a few, Start low on the $$$ and go from there you may get a surprise. Act like you have places to be. Make an offer give them your phone number and take off. Dealers always factor in a profit and a trade you need to factor these out as much as you can.

go with 3 people.. get the salesman to talk to two of you with his back turned the car and get the third person to smear oil on the bottom and then when you check it out say

"look! its pissing oil!"

or you could do what terry was saying :P

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
