If the Australian government was smart they'd arrange to run more rallies all over the country because you can be sure it would be a fail safe way to end our draughts. Because it seems nothing ever brings on the rain like a rally!

LOL Snowman - very true !

Isn't it only the AASA rallies (TT & WPT) that allow downsizing of rims?

Correct Duncan. Thats why I'm suggesting Russ doesn't do anything rash and spend a fortune on downsizing brakes/rims untli every rally he'd like to enter is either with AASA ot CAMS follows suit with the rules.

Yeah but I also read somewhere (it was on the internet so it must be true!) that Nissan have even stated that they know the R35 is FASTER with smaller wheels but fo physical symetry they were forced to run with 20's.

So the question is if you can get better rubber for 19's and it's known the car is faster on 19's then why the hell wouldn't you get a set to use when you CAN run 19's?

I think the Lambo guys mainly use the Toyo's right?

But otherwise there is the Pirelli Corsa and Michelins Sport Cups.

None of them are as good as the Dunlop/Bridgestone/Kuhmo semi's (which don't come in 19's I'm pretty sure) but they have to be better than street tyres.

The Toyo's are definitely good in the wet and they also come up to temp amazingly fast (for sprints your out lap is almost your fastest lap) but they don't have the absolute grip of the others but maybe in a rally they'd be good?

They are also funny in that people say they get faster as they get worn down too.

A simple application to CAMS would see you permitted to downsize rims. I was pushing it with them last year until we swapped and all was looking good.

Mt Buller will allow downsize too... they are also AASA.

Ok so I've now sobered up enough to remember one of my best non-driving moments of the rally...

I was standing talking to Jim Richards  as you do  when I got an unprompted text through from Duncan saying *Don't forget to tell Jimmy we love him if you see him!!!*

GOLD! :ban:

Jimmy's a legend!!

can anyone tell me what the maximum rolling diameter difference a gtr will genrally aloow for?

Is 295/30 = 661mm & 235/35 = 652mm to big of a difference to fit to a GTR?

any info is appreciated.

cheers russ

also got the paddle shifter modto move with the steering wheel, thanks beerman!!!

Hi Giant,

Do you have any more info on the modification to the paddleshifter that you are talking about there ? Was it an Australian modification or a part you imported from overseas ?

The MCR paddle shifter kit is made by Works Bell, and the standard Works Bell paddleshifter moves with the steering wheel, so I'm a bit confused as to what modification you are talking about there - is it in terms of the connection between the paddleshifter and the contacts on the steering column ?

I'm curious as to what the modification is that you are talking about above and if it is a modified part that is R35 specific or otherwise.

Thanks,

Adam

    • Was there ever a model of the Stagea m35 that didnt have a badge on the grill? I thought I saw that somewhere, some aero edition or something? I cant find it again? davemoto
    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
