Yep, you can fit a LSD to a R33, I fitted one to my R33 GTS25 a couple of months back made. The diff I got didn't come from a skyline, not quite sure what it came off (but it was nissan). Every thing was the same except the mounts at the back of the diff, I just changed the back plate over from my old diff and that fixed the problem.

Series 1 R33 don't have vvt, not so sure with the series II, I think they might have vvt.

ok took the cam gear covers off

on exhaust side has a 5 spoke cam gear(not adjustable)

on the inlet side has large pice of steel with a cover bolted to it

wich apears to be bolted to the centre of the cam gear (all most same size as cam gear )this i guess is the vvt

please can some one tell me if i am correct

and also if you wanted to put adjustable cam gear on can this be taken off or is it the same thing

thanks eryc

Sorry dude, I've had no luck in finding out what it was off.:)

The ratio of the diff I got was 4:3.1 ratio LSD, but knowing what I know now, I should have got a 4:1.1 ratio LSD, it would have put the speedo readings out a little bit, but the car wouldn't rev quite so high at 100km, and I would have a better top speed, I'm kickin my self now:hellpisd:

If you are getting a LSD check what type of flanges (the ones from the diff to the wheels) you have, before you go and get one. I made the mistake of not checking the first time and got the wrong one:Oops:.

I have attached a quick sketch, of the diff flanges sort of looked like the first one in my case was the wrong one (can't quite remember if it was 5 or 6 stud), the 2nd was the one that fitted my car. sorry I can't be of more help.

"7grand clutch dump, if both wheels spin u have an lsd if only one spins u dont have an lsd."

LOL yeah that's the fun way, the more restrained and kind way is to get the car on a hoist or jack it up and turn one (rear) wheel . if the other one turns then you have a LSD.

can anyone tell me what is going on here: i have an lsd, but if i have one wheel on grass/dirt and one on tar and i go to take off, it just spins the wheel on the grass/dirt. i would have thought the lsd would have transferred the power to the wheel with traction (the one on the tar) and i would have taken off normally with no spinning??? or is that what a vicious (sp) LSD does? what the hell is a vicious LSD while we are on the topic of them? :)

    • I'm normally copping my own abuse from neglecting my daily drivers. "Those suspension bushes will last a bit more", "Don't worry about the oil leak, just keep topping it up". The project cars I'm always doing things slowly on them as I'm wanting them to be done better, and neater, and nicer. Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
    • Every time I pull my 3x gauges out of the console and see the crack-addict way that I did the wiring, and I just can't bring myself to tear it all apart and "make it nice", because it is currently working. In fact, the last time I was in there I probably made it worse.
    • The best part is when you own the car long enough that you look back and find your OWN ham fisted amateur shit!
    • The annoying part about neglect, is when you start to replace one thing, and find ten more broken things. Ham fisted monkey repairs you normally only find out about when trying to do something unrelated! Ha ha   Neglect you can kind of anticipate the huge costs to fix it all. Ham fistedness is normally a shock the first time your work on a new old car, as everything "looked" good before.
