I think what he's trying to say is that he doesn't see the need to run 100RON fuel in an N/A car... Obviously there's N/A Hi-po cars, so if they're after a bit of a safety buffer from knock etc then I'm sure they'd run higher octane fuel....but your everyday N/A car doesn't need 100RON and isn't going to gain anything from it...

yeah of course you wont gain anything, even an turbocharged car gains zero without retuning

but he is wording it as though your fuel lines well melt if you put 100ron with ethanol in an N/A car

my car has been tuned for 100 v-racing (it was a good power gain, just ask racepace) so i been running it for 2 years daily driver...

the car has not missed a beat.

in all honesty I fail to see how its going to rust out the fuel lines.. Unless the car is sitting unstarted for months, But realistically the amount of ethanol present isnt that high at least not in V power racing.. That E85 fuel I would be more concerned about

Ethanol doesn't rust out the fuel lines... ...I'm pretty sure that "opinion" came from people using Bio-Diesel containing Ethanol as the "active" ingredient, where it was cleaner than normal Diesel and would clean out the fuel systems... ...Which meant you'd have to keep changing the fuel filter until the fuel system was clean and the injectors would sometimes clog...

Ethanol can eat through the materials that are used for gaskets... ...Ie. paper, rubber, silicone, cork, felt, neoprene, nitrile rubber, fiberglass, or a plastic polymer...

Just like rubbing alcohol can eat away at the surface of a CD... ...Ethanol eats away at the gaskets depending on what they are made of...

And while ethanol won't do much to most metals... ...I think (I was never good at high school Chem) ethanol can eat away at iron... ...but it isn't technicality "rust" as such because I don't think it is classed as oxidation because most alloys that engine parts are made of are resistant to oxidation... ...the ethanol is just picking on the iron parts...

I hope that kinda makes sense... ...I haven't studied in about 10 years... ...So I could be totally wrong and talking out of my ass...

well my wording must be a bit misleading, sorry. The point im trying to get through is what dez stated.

You will gain nothing from running that fuel in a NA.

I just went on the United website and they are bringing out a new fuel, Premium 100.

I think I will try this out when its avalible, depending on price.

Have a read>> http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/index.asp?pgID=65

I have recently changed from BP Ultimate to Shell V Power Racing and it is definitely a superior fuel. Where as my car used to sometimes get knock up around 6,000rpm now I don't get any knock. It also makes the car feel more responsive.

It's good to see that United is bringing out a 100 RON fuel as I didn't want to have to go back to BP Ultimate!

Just thought I would let you all know Ashburton Shell sell V Power Racing for 1.69 a liter and the price hasn't changed at all over the past 3 weeks. Hence when ever its high price time the extra coin for V Power Racing is only about 9.5-15c a liter over regular fuel. What a bargain! I went to a Shell on Burwood Hwy and V Power Racing was like $1.85 a liter

  • 3 months later...

you can put standard unleaded in an n/a and turbo skyline (Gts, GTST, heck even a GTR if you like)

in all cases the car will run, start and drive fine

once you load it up, it will detonate, the ecu will see this via the knock sensors and it will run a low octane timing map

so the car will be sluggish and perform like poo basically

    • Yeah good luck out there! Will be good to see a mighty GTST going harder than the GTRs
    • i will be there 😁
    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
