hi, im unsure of whaty turbo would be good for me, after somthing abit bigger than a t04z..

i have a turbo now but its way too big so im gona sell it, my aim is to run consistent mid 9 second passes, im unsure if a to4z will make much more than 450rwkw on race fuel, i know they do it on pump, what would be my other options..??

cheers

Garrett GT42R .... FTW

Link for Garrett GT42R http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarre...R_774595_8.html

Thats just one option of the turbo ... there are a ton of different sizes and stuff you can get. But That would be my choice on a drag car.

still manual...

ill take your advise R31nismoid

i was just abit curious about sizes abit bigger, thats all, thoes flow maps i dont understand how to read them, i wish i could but dont know how to..

what would the t04z put out on race fuel???

Borg warner 472 is what you want. cheaper than Garret stuff and far far more reliable check out bullseye racing in the states, and also paradise racing for pricing. If you were to stay with garret 4094 and 4294 arent really that good of a turbo, your best bet would be 4202R but you will struggle launching it with a manual.

Whats wrong with the GT4094R? And do you mean Borg Warner S372? I'm not sure there is a S472 and the S372 is a completely nuts piece of kit - will make as much power as the highest power turbos mentioned here.

Sorry your right typo there, I meant the s471. A S372 with titanium wheel would be absolute killer also as both have 71-72mm comp wheels but the 3 series is t4 flange, a little easier to package over the t6 stuff.

The 4294 wheel trims are kinda arkward, they are sized down to make the jump from say a t04Z to the next size a little easier to take for the point of view of lag but if you check out the comp maps to my eyes they are sacraficing alot of mid and top end performance and you have to remember when you are talking a turbo this big thats really the name of the game.

Cheers

Run what ive just got...

HKS T51R SPL BB....specially modified with 108mm compressor...good for 1100hp and 8's !!

In an S chassis do the right thing and run an auto (even though i hate them) they are cheaper, easier to launch , softer on the driveline and much more consistent.

Successful drag racers are not the ones that go fast...but ones that can race within a bee's d1ck of their dial in everytime.

The HKS is a great turbo, but at what cost? I can buy two borg's with titanium wheels, race covers that are polished, and specify my rear Ar for the price I was quoted on one t51, and it wasnt the spec you have mentioned.

Also forgot to mention the new borg S380, with 80mm comp wheel, 108mm inducer, titanium wheels, race cover, good for 1000hp, last time I was quoted $1999USD. Now that would be a good turbo, and I have to agree that with these big turbo's and in a drag racing application you should seriously ditch the manual.

atm i have a ITS GT80, this is good for 8 second passes aswell i was going to sell it but am totally unsure now, i have considered going auto but still am concerned about the lag..

transbrake and a shot of gas will have you leaving the line harder than any manual.

What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
    • Is it alright to top up with just another green coolant?
