the std service manual tells you specs for snow chains and how to fit them

id strongly advise getting a normal car for the snow however

Thanks all, I was at Hotham a couple of weeks back when it was snowing heavily and the roads were closed, but I had a mitsubushi outlander and it was a piece of piss to drive in the snow (slow speeds). Im not out to break any mountian climb records but thought it might be a nice drive and save me hiring a car again.

There is now much more variety of snow chains available with scratch protectors etc but Im keen to know if anyone has fitted any chains to their R32 GTR and wether its front or back wheels, and wether they foul on the wheel arch liner?

not as obvious as you might think, lotsa new 4wds advise chains on the front wheels, is good to combat understeer aswell as traction issues, admittedly they also drive mainly from the front. Id like to know what nissan reccomend for the GTR.

I went up to Lake Mountain a few weeks back in my R33 GTST. There wasnt much snow on the road as most was ploughed off, it was still very slippery though. If the road is like that you should be fine without chains, just drive slow and off boost.

Lake mt to Hotham is like Mt Buller compare to Niseko Japan! I took my old 33gtst to Buller along time ago, the car is fine, just drive within your limit.

Could be a bit of overkil with chains on all 4 wheels (have to hire and fit em), does anyone know what nissan recommend for the R32 GTR?

Why dont' you ring up NISSAN themself?

Though it sounds like alot of fun, still, taking a GTR to the snow isn't the best idea as you'd imagine the Attessa System will be working over-time for sure.

unless you absoloutely had to i wouldnt do it. GT'R is about the last car i'd want to take up to the snow. heavy on fuel, bugger all room for bags, bugger all room for people inside without it turning into a fogged up sauna, and i can only imagine it would wreak havoc on the attessa system - wouldnt know what was going on!

Just put chains on the rear wheels and take it easy. Stay in Second whenever you're on the snow/ice - even when taking off.

As soon as you've driven the first 10m with chains you'll know what you're dealing with.

I just bought some Konig chains for this season - if you get the correct size they won't scratch your rims (they barely touch them).

One thing to note however is the clearance from guards/suspension, if the car is excessively lowered or has extra wide rims forget it.

i went to bullar in my s2 stagea ... no worries didnt even bother with chains .. no slip at all .. plus the traffic i was behind, i was doin a max of about 30k's up and down ... so i dont see any reason too .. just to save money and time and have a smooth ride now a ride that feel's like you have flat tyers driving over bricks :O

I've driven the back roads from Lake Mountain to Reefton in an R31 two years ago whilst snowing

with no chains. No the most pleasant experience.

Simply kept the car in 1 and/or 2nd gear (auto) and keep the speed at 20km or less with no sudden acceleration to cause the tail to kick out or put you into an aquaplain, also or no sudden decelelarion (compression lockup) to have the tail kick out.

Same with the steering, no sudden turns, keep it smooth.

I can only assume GTSBoy is thinking of the mill up on the wollondilly, no restaurant there any more but they have restored the original steam engine on site and run it every few months, have an annual steampunk festival etc @The Bogan, you came to the wrong town for restaurants. we have a few reasonable asian and indian options but the Paragon is as good as it gets otherwise. That brewery is apparently just opened, been meaning to give it a go some time. The Highlands have plenty of fancy options but I suspect you are more a hearty eater than fancy eater

    • Going by the intake & injectors I'd be guessing it's a DE, check the head casting number, should be 5L8 on a DET, 5L7 I think is the DE number.
