Is your rear muffler straight thru? I have two mufflers - rear one has an S bend in it to help keep down noise, but have set it up so I can take off the rear one at track for less back pressure. If both are straight thru, prolly not much power advantage removing either, (but will sound heaps good) - that is if mid one is like a hot dog, apparently, if it's really big, turbulence may be removed if you take if off and there will be more power there.

yer the rear is a straight thru, i went and got a quote today on how much it would cost to replace it with a 3'' pipe and was 100 bucks, so ill most likely go thru with it, so when i take it off Zman ill let u know, not sure how much it would be for u to install it on to an existing exhaust, probs round the same as for me replacing it with a pipe...

cheers...ben.

my old system used to have a center muffler and a rear muffler, first i took of the center one cause it wasnt loud enough, that made a difference, but not enough for passangers to even notice it...

finnally i pulled of the rear muffler and replaced it with a smalish 3 inch cannon muffler, with very little baffling material (whatever its called).

Its definatly alot louder, but the problem with skylines (moreso ones with stock turbos), is that they are impossible to make loud, i got the dude at the exhaust shop to start it up with the system off and it still wasn't all that loud...

improvment in power is very minimal, maby a couple of kws?, but more than likely, you wont notice it.

I got mine done aswell, and it cost me $40 as well...$100 is a complete rip off!!!

Mine sounds sweet, a little droney between 2200rpm and about 2500 rpm, but nothing I can't deal with!

The RB series engines sound great, so in my books the louder the better. Sounds gold on full noise whilst drifting with the BOV going off all over the place.

I had the same dilemma a while ago - I had a 3" dump, 3" cat, and two straight-through 3" mufflers. I had a shop remove my centre muffler and replace it with a flaged piece of 3" pipe. Also had them make a dropped pipe, which comes out under the passenger seat and eliminates the cat too, for drags etc.

Anyway, after removing the centre muffler, my car was certainly louder and had a deeper note, but doesn't drone and has quite a nice note. With the dropped pipe on, it's not "that" loud at idle, but you can hear the turbo spool from about 1200rpm, and it sounds like a Nascar when the revs build up around 5k :P But yeah, whether it's too loud or not will depend on the muffling qualities of your remaining muffler. Mine seems to have been perfect, yours might make it too loud or too quiet. Just try it and see. Don't expect a massive power difference though.

Interesting... I too have the 2 mufflers. My exhaust consists of:

3" Custom front/dump pipe -> 3" Cat -> 3" Nismo exhaust with a middle and rear muffler -> 4" Nismo Tip.

I'm thinking of getting this middle muffler cut out and replaced with just a 3" straight through pipe (or possibly getting it done so that i can swap between a muffler or straight through pipe, daily driving vs track/drag).

So about $40 and 30mins and it should be done eh?

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
