hey guys, just about time to purchase my new ecu for my rb25. have been looking into the haltech and the microtech. price is a fair bit different between the two. everytime i speak to someone they have a totally different opinion on whats better for my use. it will be a daily driver, fully rebuilt motor retaining aac and cold start. who here has had personal experience with any of the two and can give their opinions on what they think is the better option. thanks alot, adam.

The haltech is soo much better then the microtech, will be 100% nicer to drive and you will be able to get better economy.

The microtech is great for full power race cars but if your going to be driving it on the street go the haltech.

Yes i am aware that there are some tuners who can make microtechs go like a shower of shit. but this is not about that. if you have no money get a greddy emanage ultimate.

hey mate,

i went from an HKS ecu to the Haltec E11V2, it was necessary for me to change over due to the power i was producing, ive had it for about 12 months now with no probs. I use the car as a daily driver but also give it a work out on the w/e. I havent had any dealings with microtech to compare against though.

Yeh i'm running the Haltech, i went haltech as alot of tuners can tune them and it will support any mod you wanna do...

it runs nice, very powerful, a few little things i still have to get fixed up (but thats because of my setup and tuner...)

Still can drive it like a factory car :D there is a new ecu out called the Vipec There is a lot of discussion about it on this forum i think it'd be worth a go...

The only reason i didn't use it was it wasn't released when i got mine...

haha thanks mate, sounds like you like the haltech! and as for having no money, yeah thats me, bloody cars killing me. ill order the haltech in a couple weeks :D

good idea. they are a great ecu.

Choose your workshop and then choose your computer if you ask me. Your tune is only as good as your tuner! Haltechs are significantly dearer than the microtech last time i checked. Depends which features you need i guess.

Get a ViPEC...better and cheaper.

Legitimate question, why is it better than a link? if i knew the differrences then maybe it is worth forwarding it on to customers... i have used the VI-PEC and it is sweet but it was so much harder to organise than a PLUG IN LINK... also the VIPEC has NO margin and has to be bought from your competitors..... VERY POOR DISTRIBUTION. If they want to be serious they need to step up and be proffessional... PRODUCT A1, rest is a joke (IF your in Melbourne anyway as distributor doesnt even hold stock, i wanna hold a few to use and tune and i cant.... :) ).

hopefully they sort this out as it is very capable unit.

BTW LINK $1269, Vi-PEC $1699

They are not turning into Haltech...i.e. you sell 2 ecu's and your a distributor.

You sell and advertise a product that is in direct competition with this ECU.

Distrubutors are chosen due to their loyalty to the parent company (formally the supplier of Autronic plug-in's) , knowledge and experience. If you are unhappy with this arrangement i suggest you e-mail Ray and voice your opinion to him...not rant on here. I also suggest you have a discussion with him regarding the product as its far more than a rebadged Link as you may be incorrectly suggesting.

Just because this arrangement leaves you out of the loop does not mean the product is inferior or its distribution practices poor. We can get plenty of units and our customers are extremely happy with the turn-around from ordering to installation and tuning.

You seem a good fella Trent who knows his stuff so i think the suggestions ive made above may be worth following up. You can make a dollar out of this product but it may be in other areas i.e tuning and after-sales service. If the Melbourne distributor is for some reason unable to supply you units for whatever reason you can order them quite easily though us.

This is something i am happy to do and i will talk in the future, i was keen as (due mainly to your endorsement of it) to implement the full range and keep stock (EVO SUBARU, SR and RB) and include it in a advertising campaign worth nearly 14k but then to find that the distributor i had to buy from in Melbourne is not supporting the program (does not even hold stock) why should i bust my balls to promote a product that seems not to want any Melbourne sales growth.... My background is product procurement and market strategy etc so i understand the concepts of price protection and market positioning... i just feel burnt by the whole thing.

As i said i love the Vi-Pec just not its distribution and pricing (paid more for it than what i do locally for a PFC D-Jetro which is just as capable ECU and i can get it faster... which shouldnt be the case.)

    • Thank you GTSBoy and MBS206 I have done the compression test with the motor out of the vehicle, reason for the test was to see if I needed to remove the head and do rings etc while its out. I'm in the process of respraying the vehicle and tidying up a few things. Story behind it all is I've just purchased the skyline and it was running when I got it, never drove it on the street though as I wanted to pull it down and do it all up again before registering it. the gentleman I purchased it from told me the motor has a forged bottom end and has a decent tune through it but I was going to pull the sump off anyway to see if it is a forged bottom end. that's why I thought id do a compression test beforehand.
    • Man, I'm kind of amazed that the price of the turbo has not changed in 7 years. Everything else is inflating beyond reason, but not this? Good on Tao / hypergear I guess? Anyways, good luck with the sale!
    • I'm selling my brand new, in the box, never used Hypergear ATR45 - and I had some additions I paid for a few yrs back when I purchased it. Never ended up having the rest of the money to add all the mods at once, so I just ended up slowly selling each part. I originally had it internally gated, with the dump pipe, however I found it was incompatible with what I was going to use it for, so I contacted (I think Ken) from Hypergear, and he and I messaged back and forth & he got me to ship the turbo back, where they modified it & made it externally gated, and gave me the 5 bolt dump pipe attachment for custom welding. (Photos below) This turbo like I said has never touched the inside of an engine bay, it's completely brand new, never used, been sitting in the same box it arrived in, covered in plastic & all. Below are the photos of it: And while the guys at Hypergear were making it in-shop, they sent me some photos of the process: I'm looking at selling this just because I'm in need of the money right now, and don't have plans on modifying the 34 anytime soon - and from reviews & peformance sheets, this turbo had amazing results back when I was researching. The turbo was purchased in 2018 for $1.9k, with the mods I got added on. Looking at the website now, for the same turbo they sell (ATR45SAT), with the current addons it adds up to $1830 for the turbo Current addons included: - Bolted dump adaptor - Ball bearing CHRA - Braided oil feeding line So I'm looking to possibly sell it for around $1800, with shipping included in that 1.8k, It cost me around $120 to ship - so yeah thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone was interested in purchasing. Cheers!
