yep fc hako is good

works well and lets you use any of the powerfc software

if your interested in checking it out ill be doing a talk on it at the next sau vic meeting SEP 21st

check out vic section for next meeting info

Awesome, so it works fine with DataLogit and all that i suppose..

Looks to just be a data connection converter so really the difference between the FC-Datalogit and FC-HAKO in terms of hardware would just be apearence i presume? Wiring would be the same and features you have access to..

FC-HAKO includes USB interface, rather than using a USB-to-RS232 converter cable which then gets converted to TTL levels with a MAX232 or similar chip.

Not sure if people use more than 2 analog inputs or the 4 switch outputs. Those are not supported.

It also supports official software (FC-Pro JP only, including analog inputs), and third party software.

It also supports firmware updating, if any bug fixes or new features need to be added to the hardware in the future.

Thanks for the info, will try and make it down to the SAUVIC Meeting and see what people think about it.. But i think im set in stone to purchase 1.

Since i plan on using it on an R33 S1 instead of having gauges on track just making a mount for it where the Head unit would sit..

I've sold more overseas than to those in Australia!

That would also explain why apexi stop making ecr33 PowerFCs... everyone wants one, but no one wants to buy one :-)

David. (fc-hako.com)

the fc-hako cable is the same as the datalogit cable. they both plug into the powerfc and then plug into your laptop or PC and away you go

be sure to note fc-hako is a cable solution and datalogit is a cable and software solution

in the testing i have done it works the same and performs well and lets you use a number of applications

the cable is on their website as per bk's post and ill be adding it to the powerfc FAQ this weekend with some photos etc

there are photos on the site as well

g'day paul, quick question where can the software be sourced from if you buy the hako cable, and if so is it free, how many different types available, which is best and is it just as good as datalogit? cheers cam

every question you have is covered in the PFC FAQ

its in my signature and look for "HAKO" in the PFC FAQ

happy to test one, i use mine about 6 or 7 times a week. Would be happy to on sell them if they work as well as the fc-datalogit.

Anything new on this guys???

I'm particularly interested in its compatibility with Fc edit/datalogit .....any hicups???

trent had some issues with it working and i need to check with david as i dont know why either

this is the cable that i have , i loaned it to hamish to test with

ive used it flawlessly on my car a few times

im pretty sure it is driver related, my toughbook (running XP) is stable as but that said it has eleven billion tuning programs on it, i reckon the USB to serial driver it comes with is conflicting with another one i have installed for the old white datalogit. I use serial for catalogue now as it offers 100% (never ever had a connect issue) reliability.

For those without so many other tuning programs already loaded i reckon it will work fine, i was not willing to delete programs and drivers i use everyday (or al least 2 3 times a week) just to verify a driver conflict as it does not happen with any other interface.

When it did load up it performed flawlessly so for those looking for a cheap interface its a good option.

If you have vista i reckon your gonna struggle with the usb to serial as its a known issue... even the original datalogit usb to serial was unreliable with vista.....best bet xp.

Those that have used the FC-HAKO:

Are you connecting the cable directly to the PFC without an extension cable? Is the plug a tight fit? If so, that could be part of the issue as it should go in much farther. If you have an extension cable, please utilise that.

Also, are you removing the cable by pulling on the actual cable, rather than on the connector? Please do not do this.

If it is a tight fit or does not work any more, I'm happy to send out a replacement cable, or get it replaced in person (by John) if you're in Perth. Send an email to [email protected] and we'll organise it from there. Or if you're happy to do it, modify the connector like:

pfc_connector_change.jpg

One other possibility is that the laptop may be in power-saving mode, where it might place USB devices into a lower power state after X amount of minutes of non-usage. But I am not sure if this could be causing it.

I've only had it properly tested with XP, so I am not sure when it comes to Vista / 7.

Sorry about the issues. I'm trying to figure out what is exactly causing them.

David.

you have a toughbook! you lucky man.... how good are they! my dell c400 does me fine for now.

^^^ dont stress 98% of tuning programs bomb on vista :P

Its the main reason i backloaded XP onto my toughbook.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
