Hey Lads and Lasses!

Well, to cut a long story short. At the pub. X amount of beers later. We began planning a road trip from Sydney to Tasmania looking to drive the best driving roads the East Coast has to offer.

3 cars, 6 people. (12A Mazda Capella, Rb25 R32, 4G63 VR4)

We are taking a little more than 2 weeks in January to give my mate enough time to finish a rotory conversion, give me time to finish a couple of projects and the third mate time to change a head gasket.

The obvious VIC driving road is Great Ocean Road.

Where is there to drive to?

We are looking for mountain passes, coast roads etc.

Where are the common places where people gather to meet and drive to? We want to meet people, experince the scene, drive some different roads etc.

So where are the popular places to go for a drive to? Cruise or spirited drive?

Where to sleep?

Any good places to go camping? We are sleeping where we can find to save money on accomodation. This may be a stupid question. But are there any quite beaches in VIC? Nothing like being woken up by the sun rising hung over as balls :)

Where is there to go out to?

Where is there to go get a good beer? Pub or clubs. Tips on where to go and what kind of music/people there are. We are all 20 so where would you guys recommend to go?

What will I need?

I am guessing many of you guys have gone for a road trip. Is there any tips you guys can give on what to bring? Some helpful hints to do some ghetto mods/repairs on the side of the road? Yes yes.. there will be many many cable ties (plastic and metal) and duct tape.

Oh!.. And by the way, do we need to pre-book the boat thing to Tasmania? where do we do that?

Any ideas/tips/advice you guys can give please chip in guys!

Dandenong Ranges and Great Ocean Road stand out for sure but depends which way you will be coming through as I'm sure you don't want to be driving places left right and centre just for the sake of it.

And you can't miss chapel street to. :cool:

lol dude i think they plan to go to tassie, not get there cars taken off them in melb and taxi home haha

yea i would recermend comeing down through dandynong and the black spure (near kinglake) and then go along the great ocean road back as they are on the opersite sides of vic. and also the GOR will be packed at that time of year.

as for going out i dont recermend the CBD due to the amount of viloence at the moment. some of the outer suburbs are nice. if you let the biy know the date a cruise could be orgonised so you can see the scean.

Go down the A1 from syd. Through the Alpine national park past lakes entrance etc. Then head into melb via black spur just near marysville.

Just what i was thinking.

Been wanting to do the Great Alpine Rd cruise for years, this just may be the excuse i can use to do it. Keep us posted and i may decide to meet you guys at Wangarrata (sp?)

Any drivers are more than welcome to come meet up and cruise! Any cars welcome, just a good attitude needed

You guys say Great Ocean Road will be packed.. But the trip is from the 16th of Jan till the 2nd of Feb (or something like that).. would it still be paked then? What about very late night/early morning?

I'm told The Great Alpine Way, between Wangaratta and Bairnsdale, is quite good.

Black Spur, between Alexandra and Healesville. Or detour to Reefton Spur (Marysville -> Warburton).

GOR, to Apollo Bay, then on to Lavers Hill and return. Return to Melbourne via Forrest and Moriac. Best with an early (7am) start, to avoid all the tourists.

In Tas:

Devonport -> Sheffield -> Mole Ck -> Deloraine -> Longford -> Cressy -> Poatina -> Bothwell -> Hobart.

Hobart -> Triabunna -> Swansea -> Bicheno. Elephants Pass (Chain of Ponds -> St Marys -> Scamander)

Scamander -> St Helens -> Derby -> Scottsdale -> Launceston.

All absolutely brilliant roads.

I would also suggest your first stop over be somewhere along the 90 mile beach outside gippsland, if you drive straight onto the kinglake section you wont enjoy it as much after near on 10hrs driving.

The snowy valley way is a good detour to avoid the hume highway. Gundagai - Tumbarumba - Corryong - Tallangatta (worth a side trip Granya gap) and on to Wangaratta. Then you could do the alpine road but that takes you a long way from Melbourne.

Further down closer to Melbourne the Euroa Mansfield road is another good road. This takes off the h-way down towards Healesville.

Black Spur is a good drive, but can get some traffic.

A quiter road and IMO a way better/tighter run is The Reefton run. Called Reefton-something Rd and runs to Warburton.

I usually go from Healesville -> Warburton, starting with the Black Spur. :rofl:

Be careful, coz a mate had a VERY close call with a side mirror and tyre (on full lock) just grazing a massive tree and a reflector post. See piccy attached.

      Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch.       A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
