Well I finally got my stroked rb20 running yesterday but as soon as it started could hear she wasn't firing on all cylinders, We tested the injectors there all clicking away, took annd the coilpaks out and earthed them all with the plus in them and spun the CAS and they all spark.

I am stuck for ideas why its not running correctly, can anyone shed any light on why or what could be causing this to happen ?

Cheers

Cameron

Igniter? coil harness?

Did you unplug each coil one at a time to narrow down which cylinders weren't firing?

Of course Bubba,

Tried each injector, and each coil pack on top of the engine and they all sparked.

Number 3 isn't firing whilst unplugging while running the engine.

Yes but they all don't cover all the injectors working fine and all the coils sparking and all brand new plugs and it still does it.

is the spark a good spark or just a spark, as if the coils are worn or the harness is stuffed they will still spark yet not properly, also have you checked the timing?

Coils are brand new used them for all of 1km driving before the engine came out. I am thinking its in the harness or the ignitor I had a quick search but is there nay way to test the ignitor?

Timing is spot on the mark.

Yes but they all don't cover all the injectors working fine and all the coils sparking and all brand new plugs and it still does it.

The principles are the same.

Number 3 isn't firing whilst unplugging while running the engine.

If #3 isn't working, then they are not "all fine". To repeat the several squillion threads, it's simply a matter of moving / swapping component locations to determine which part of the system is kaput.

And to add, We have switched the coilpacks around and the problem stay on number 3, we have also switched the injectors around.

I have read countless threads where Coilpacks are stuffed or sparkplugs are fouled up..

This case is different, I have even tried 3 sets of brand new spark plugs, 2 sets of coppers and 1 set of iridium's

We tested all the coilpacks at once but earthing them all along the top of a peice of steel earthed ot the car all of them fired when rotating the CAS, we did similar with the injectors only plugging one in at a time and spinning the CAS they all make the clicking sound when they fire.

I wouldn't of made a new thread if this was like the "squillion other thread"

The things I am yet to try is a different ignitor and different harness but have tested continuity from the ecu harness to the engine bay and all check out fine even while jiggling the harness looking for loose or broken connections.

And to add, We have switched the coilpacks around and the problem stay on number 3...
We tested all the coilpacks at once but earthing them all along the top of a peice of steel earthed ot the car all of them fired when rotating the CAS,
These 2 statements don't correlate. Either they all work, or #3 has a problem. Which one is it?

Yes, This is why I don't know why its not firing... They all sparked yet when you run the engine number 3 doesn't fire this is my problem.

Understood that if the coilpack didnt make spark to try another and see if it sparks, but what happeneds if it does spark? and changing to another coilpack still provided the same spark yet when its all on the engine it doesnt fire it?

Ok, so while you are testing the coils, they are at a different angle to when they are "installed". That might suggest a fault in the wiring to #3 coil. Have a play with the wiring to the coil while the engine is running, see if that has any effect.

Ok well, Seem to have found the problem being the number 3 injector... I took it out because it wasnt functioning.. put 12v on it no clicks... tapped it a few times tried 12v again and it started to click again. Hopefully when I put it back together it all works fingers crossed

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
