At present my rides a R33 GTS25t. The mods are a full 3inch exhaust from the turbo back, Apexi pod filter and a front mount intercooler. The boost has not been touched. According to the factory boost gauge, it reads a max. slightly above the +3.5 mark.

Today I was completely blown away by a R34 Gt-t. I had a word with the owner at the next lights and he said the car was stock. I am aware that in stock form they have more power. Do these cars have a greater potential than the R33s? What are the differences between the two engines? (like whats with the NEO).

I know the mods that I have are nothing special, but I thought it would have been a little closer. This thing just pulled away. Now I want one.

He he he, get yourself a bleed valve and take the boost upto 12psi. Makes a big difference.

I'd say your car is running mega rich too (intake and exhaust mods) so if you can spare the $$$ get something to bring the A/F down and you should be around the 170rwkw mark.

J

Jay, after reading a lot of the posts, their saying not to take the boost above 10psi (to be safe) with the standard turbo. I have a Apexi A/F gizmo in the glove box, which I had adjusted. Did'nt feel any difference.

Moving to canberra next week. Might see u driving around some time. Hope u live around Woden.

Cool, I'm in Woden a fair bit so I'll keep an eye out for you.

What's your car look like?

Have you got a series 1 or a series 2? If you've got the 2 they yeah, don't go above 10psi. 1's are ok up to 12psi but I wouldn't go further.

The Apexi thingy, what does it look like? Single knob, 5 knob, or a flashy blue screen thing?

Amir,

The GTT's have 206kw standard which is more than you will have atm.

i am running 9psi atm, its been fine... i was running 12psi, but kept hitting boost cut, so once thats been removed with a fuel cut defender (which i have to find... its here somewhere) i will be back up to 12.

i have a series 2 btw/

You can generally tell if she is running really lean as when I just got the new fuel pump on some how it was tuned to be tooo lean in the mid range.

I would flatten it, 1 bar of boost by 3000rpm but there would be no power so i backed off the accelerator off a little saw the boost guage drop to around 12psi then she would take off.

There was also ever so slight pinging.

Because I have a boost drop problem up top due to the small turbo and weak wastegate actuator it would take off at around 5000rpm when boost starts to drop.

Felt a bit like the R33's duel boost setup actually. :D

Because I have a Fuel Pressure bleed kit installed with the bigger fuel pump it was running really rich up top and to make the power and to bring the af's in order up top the mid range had to run lean.

I didn't like the way it was tuned so i richened it up my self roughly and it seems to go heaps harder from 2500rpm to 5500rpm but due to it still running rich up top it does tend to feel like it is choking a little.

Oh well.. New SBC this week and new turbo soon when it becomes available. then ecu tune :( :burnout:

It sounds bad but I'm starting to have sleepless nights hehe :D

Sound Familiar... :burnout:

Jay,

Its a 95 GTS25t, white, white + chrome 17's, got QLD No. plates on it at the moment. Looks stock from the exterior except for the exhaust tip and tint.

The Apexi thingy, is a Apexi air fuel controller, with a single knob.

Ex-static and Macka, I'll get a mechanic that I met in canberra to install a bleed valve and then up the boost to 10psi. Wonder what power gain that will give, compared to what I have now? Hope it doesnt loose traction too much as the wife gets **** scared as it is.

yeah 10psi with front mount isnt too bad not a great deal faster my car didnt wheelspin at all with 255s until i put the hiflow on.

12 is alot better and is still stable on the turbo,

Relax run it at 12 when u hear clunk clunk say to misses aaahh **** my turbo is blown have to get it fixed and bolt up a turbo with metal wheels

The R34 GTT is some 70kg lighter and has 48Nm more torque at 1200rpm less...it should pull away quite easily over a stock R33. Gear ratios i'd say are the same?

The power comes on earlier from the different turbo, NEO engine, more efficient intercooler & better exhaust flow ...technological advancement i guess :D

70kg lighter???

The R33 GTS25t is quoted as 1370kg (manual) & 1390kg (Auto) dry weight, this is written in the Nissan factory sales paperwork. Wet weight is in the low to mid 1400kg range. Mine was 1455kg (1/2 a tank of gas, + a few kg for this & that in the car)

Put your R34 on a calibrated weigh bridge & I think you'll be surprised how heavy it really is! The magazines (HPI etc...) & various web sites claim 1410kg for the R34 GT-t, & that's dry weight!

well as far as i know, on paper the only difference is a revised exhaust system, larger intercooler, more efficient plumbing and different turbo....

the NEO engine does something with cam changing i believe? ie. like honda's VTEC and it probably assists in abit more power too...

my R34 isnt here YET. Its currently at the compliancers getting the necessary work done to it, and then the compliance plates ordered and then registered. approx. 13 days!!!

i'll let you know when i get it! :P

Both the R33 GTS25t & R34 GT-t (is it GT-25t or GT-t?) RB25DET engines have variable timing. The VCT is for improving bottom end/mid range torque, the same as the later SR20DET.

Hey G'day Minh !

Yeah Adelaide has been good so far mate :) Cheaper insurance down here too!

I've got lots of plans for the car mate, it's just convincing my missus to sign off on the $$$ to carry them out :) 300+rwkw is what I'm aiming for.

How's the Nissan Skyline WRX & Subaru GTR goin' ? :D You still drivin' a Rex?

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
