i love my r33 for drifting

here's a few vids/pics

my car is pretty much stock btw except for a few engine bolt-ons, kaaz 2way and full susp

I am with you dude, mine was decent even if it did still have that shite standard diff lol, the HICAS made it a little hairy sometimes lol. But yes Mild Modded RB26 + Stretched Tyres + Hektik Suspension = Fun Times :blush:

I used to have a 33 and still have a soft spot fir them. They are a great base and can be set up as a basic drift car quite easily, the wide wheel base also names them transition a little more softly. The only thing I found was it tended to understeer on turn in a bit and because of the higher centre if gravity it could sway a litttle if not slammed.

I switched back to an s chassis for the same reason as their general popularity in drifting circles, the lighter, more nimble chassis, combined with way more aftermarket parts desighned specifically for drifting easily available.

The way I see it, 33s don't have much of a following in drift and as a result there hasn't been much research put into setting them up for drift and desighning drift specific parts for them which subsequently means that taking them to the next level setup wise is a little difficult, whereas with an s chassis you can just jump on ns and copy one of a million cars and have a very competitive car hence why you see adair few at the social/club level, but very few beyond that. I still think they are and awesome car for entry level, but if you were looking to develope the car beyond the basic handling mods I'd suggest the boring old sil route . Best mods youcan do to a 33 are diff and lock hicas, I found they greatly changed the way my car behaved,

Dusted mine off the other day... :( bit of work to get her back to glory days again... but I'm motivated...

Found turbo missing... but have 30/37 to go on needs manifold... (manifold on it's way)

Going to need Q45 AFM... now wired in, awaiting turbo manifold and waste gate set up then plumb the afm in.

Gearbox selector arm bent... looking for replacement...

Rear gards bent, moving to R33 GTR guards, and spaced rear wheels.

Front guards bent... making custom wider than rear front guards...

new front bar to match...

Hoped to have the whole package going by end of may... but happy to have it finished by September...

Bring back the 33, game on!

i ownly have 180 rwkw in my r33 still in street form and it slides sweet as but must admit as well that angles are a tad harder to pull off but that being said its still not hard to slide at all infact very easy to control. and each suspention mod i makes me push the car harder and harder cause it makes feel more in control and all i have is pinaples caster pillow joint rods and i ownly have lowered springs and shocks. cant wait to fit coilovers.

so with a full suspention set up dude. the r33 would be a peace off piss to drift. plus with the strong as nails drive line conponents u can drive em like u stole it without shit braking.

hey dude. you said your going to be using the q45 afm right. i just sold one that i was going to use on my r33 cause i got told there hard as hell to tune and got told to use the z32 afm instaed. how do you find the q45 compared to the z32. cheers

Andrew Milne in his matte black R33 on the weekend at the Super Drift event at Mallala. Apparently he was f**king ripping it.

Well at this stage I'm still waiting for the exhaust manifold to be finished, but I'll report back when it is tuned and let you know how it went.

I think I counted 7 R33's drifting at Winton on the weekend. I don't think it was a case of R33's becoming a more popular drift car but more R33 owners becoming interested in getting sideways instead of just the usual straight track work. It was a refreshing event to see so many different types and styles of cars.

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve. 
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
