i have heard a few ba reports on gt rs turbos.

they are suited to 2.8ltr engine.

a guy in the uk had 2 sets fitted and had problembs low to mid range on an rb26dett.... good to end though.

so i think safest is hks 2530 as they are well known and driveable on the street.

Hi markr34gtr, we have had GTR's with all sorts of turbo's on then. By far the best allround (road, drag & circuit) was the HKS2530's, closely followed by the N1's, then daylight. With 406 fwkw, those 2530's were heaven on a stick, we upgraded to 2540's and the result was so dissappointing, hardly any more max power, lower average power from 4,500 to 8,500 rpm and way more lag.

If I had a 2.6 litre GTR then 2530's would be on it, simple as that.

Went in a 33 GTR just a few weeks ago with 2530 on it and 350rwkw with great driveability etc. Spooled up early and pull right through to 8500.

For me if I was putting 2530 on I would also put motec on it as this will improve drivability, smoothness etc. Also I would mod the transfer case to make the front hook up faster and thus reduce oversteer. Just what I would do.

Mick.

Hi Mark, we use the a 300 rwkw maximum target for a standard R33/34 GTR intercooler. Boost is irrelevant, it the airflow that makes the power.

For a nice drive we find, being AFM based, an Apexi Power FC to be much better than any of the MAP based ECU's (that includes Motec).

R34's don't have the same ATEESA programming as R32's so don't have the same strong oversteer tendancy. If you want otadjust the bias then HKS make an electronic controller for the purpose. But I would not worry about it on R34, its a must on a high power R32 though.

Hope that helps some more

Mark, there are a couple of us over in Perth running 2530's on GTR's, I've got an R33 and a mate has an R32. He's running 2530's with HKS dumps on stock engine, sticj injectors, stock FMIC, with PFC, Bosch 044 and 1.2 bar and is getting 403rwhp. I'm running 2530's and dumps, HKS FMIC, 700cc injector, cam gears, PFC Pro but am awaiting z32 afm's before tuning to 1.3bar.

I changed my FMIC at 280awhp and without changing anything else power rose to 320awhp so I disagree with the 'stock cooler is good for 450hp theory..

Another factor to consider is about 500 - 550 engine hp the internals are going to be under a lot of pain!!!!

But defo go the 2530's, wicked for street....

Cheers

Brett

i agree , sold on 2530s. might sell my r34 intercoller and get hks type r. 600 by 300 by 103...

i have a mines ecu which is set up for hks 2510 and 600cc.

so it should work okay with my 700cc inj and nismo fuel reg.

i know the way to go is apexi pfc but turbos arent cheap.

we can just tune it with the fuel reg for now..

Hi EVLR33, I am very interested in your experiences with changing the intercooler and getting 40 awhp increase at 280 awhp. Did you change anything else? What happened to the boost? You went from a standard R33 GTR intercooler to ? You didn't change the pipework? Same dyno and operator? Same temperature and humidity?

The reason why I am so interested is that I have had a R33 GTR intercooler on the flow bench and it showed no real restriction until 60 lbs of air per minute, which is enough for around 600 bhp. Plus the GMS R32 GTR 's with N1 intercoolers (same as R33) made 620 bhp before CAMS slapped the limiters on them. So there is a far bit of evidence around to support the 300 awkw limit.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

thanks sydneykid i think i will leave the r34 cooler on for a while as my target is 500 to 600hp. so the 1800bucks can by a apexi pfc or something more important to balance the package.

would like 300rwks and 11 sec 1/4 time.

ran a 12.9 at 108mph last month at 1.1bar with the way it is now.

with a crap 2.0 60ft time. have done 1.8s before .

Mark,

I have the Type R HKS cooler, it's awesome... Also speak to Mark Sharp from Bansai Motorsport he's a legend and he's in Qld. I got my turbos off him second hand for a good price and they were virtually brand new.. Also you can get a PFC with Hand controller for around $1300 from places like Nengun and Greenline. I would suggest you also get the HKS Actuators when you get the turbos. A mate put them on his 2530's and they hold 1.1 bar perfect. I'm running stock actuators and my boost drops off and isn't as consistant...

SydneyKid, I was shocked at the result as well. It was done on the same Dyno about 2 weeks apart (temps were not much different). Boost went up slightly but we didn't change it. Nothing else went on the car except the cooler, stock pipes and everything.... Went from a stock R33 cooler to a HKS Type R...

I guess there could have been a problem with my stock cooler but it looked in good nick... A fair bit of oil and crap came out of it when I degreased it that could have affected it I suppose..

Cheers

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
